Im going to guess that there are many who have not played 4.6 yet, or "Bleeding Beta" (MFN1), other than in Admiral's leagues, and this is a good thread on the subject, which I highly recommend reviewing before making a final decision on 4.5 vs 4.6

When I played my first season with 4.6, I did not like it. But, it grew on me and now I like it equally with 4.5. What I would like to see is more internal game controls, similar to minimum requirements for # of players on a roster, and maximum # of starters. There should be a minimum play selection and minimum use, so you dont get overuse of one or two plays. I'd like to see the coaches do more "coaching", and be more involved in the game. Rules should be eliminated and instead be more based on your coaches style, as per 4th down decisions, conservative vs aggressive. Roster Only is an attempt to do so but it goes to far with respect to owner/manager decisions and influence.

I really don't know enough about the differences to make an informed decision one way or the other. I have been in both types of leagues though and to be honest haven't noticed much difference but I'm not as serious as a lot of folk about in depth analysis and intricacies of gameplay although some have tried to explain it to me. I can say that one type of football appeals to me more than the other, yet it happens to be the type of play that it's major proponents are not what I'd call my cup of tea in our interpersonal communications. So..........,. Since either way is fine with me.........

RO is too limited but I guess I like the gameplanning to some extent. Using no rules I can get around 85% of what I want to apply or care to. I consider that the middle game. Maybe 5-10 minutes to set up each game or just do nothing different in terms of the strategy used set depth chart. Coaches do mean little except there play book. I don’t resign so whatever the AI picks is what it is. Sucks when I get stuck with a zone HC.

This bleeds in to my point. Essentially your saying less picking your plays. But it’s the weakness or strength of the play , in the particular version we’re playing, that drives outcomes. 4.5 was this offensive play and that defensive play and what plays work in 4.6 are the similar to 4.5.

Your defensive schemes are stout. 4.5 ..4.6...4. Whatever. A lot of guys have good defensive schemes in 4.6 . Some variety but in general they make the offense produce low stats . I see as 200 yards on the ground is better than 200 yards in the air. For a total of 300 offensive yards. Something like that.

When compared and I point out the playoffs as users who pick the right talent and select the right plays are playing ....the part that your suggesting to limit....... and I say compare playoff qb stats of 4.5 and 4.6 . Or just both in general....as were trying to select the best plays/skills.

4.6 that same drop in production is not as consistently seen . Yes your defense and others seem consistently good in the playoffs but that same drop is certainly not as drastic. ( in the playoffs) With great minds playing great minds....

but that my main point as the code becomes more accurate to default values (in player weights) the less consistently you will see the specialization of gameplans changing out comes. Thus making more teams competitive.

All the holes of 4.6 this is one reason it is better than 4.5. Specialized mismatched weight discrepancies to gain positive rolls has been curbed. It still matters but to closer to nfl standards.

4.5 is having larger offensive numbers in the regular season only to see them drop near 4.6 numbers (without the pressure) or even worse when top users meet

This is a VERY good point to make. It's 100% true, whenever I play against the 6 or 7 elite players stats are dratically different (down across the board) for both teams.

I just want to point out that if the developer doesn't make changes when changes need to be made it will eventuially get to a point where people are complaining about the same things basically. You can't not change things and let the same code play out 2 years without making any noticable changes. I'm not saying nothing was done but it clearly wasn't enough.

I'm looking down the barrel of Preseason Game #1 set-up and I have to put forth an exertion level to create my seasonal match-up....you're boring in deep to extract those 'holy f***'' moments where you put on an aerial display and/or put up incredible stats.

If I'm looking down the barrel of 16 non-producing Infinity/Smirt Clashes - every game of that caliber - my energy exertion level will = 0% because no matter what I do I'm not going to create magic.

You need the AI opponents and bang around ones to produce the fun.

Heh, and v4.6 = that right now no matter the opponent. (as in no fun)

Yeah.

v4.5 - season is for statistical explosion.

Playoffs is for GM wars and less stats. Ok. What is the problem with that? Nothing.

I'm not interesting in the why things work or dont....I'm only interested in the results.

I've creator 2 leagues in there 20th season and have created a sense of history in those leagues via Alltime Stats threads, MVP and ALLPRO selections every season plus a Hall of Fame for retired players that produced exceptional stats throughout there career.

I've tried to bring my leagues to life and it's helped retain owners. In my XFL League which is entering season 20...I have 16 owners playing in season 10 or more including 4 original owners.

I make my leagues fun because I try to make the dots come alive and names matter. Everyone who has spend at least 4 seasons in the XFL (25 owners) knows Randal Cunningham is the greatest QB in XFL history.

My point is this....I don't know code or why things work or dont....I don't know the math or logic being used to code the game and what that does to change how the sim gets results.

Honestly, I don't care because I'm and end-user who is playing a game because it's fun!

I've spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in not only creating leagues with an added layer of fantasy life through added content in the threads but enforcing when someone has a record day or reaching a milestone. My Hall of Fame is the penultimate thread for players from teams that did it the best. Owners are proud of a player they drafted, who played 10+ years who gets elected in the Hall of Fame.

Why does any of this matter???

20 years of history and how am I suppose to logically explain why a 8 year QB who has averaged 4,000 yards passing a season and 38 TD passes who is on a fast track to the Hall of Fame suddenly can't throw for 3,000 yards and has 20 TDs.....sure one player can be explained away but the entire league is about to produce extremely different results.

It's just insane how we switch from one version to another and there is no continuity or consistency....New versions should be released every 3 months with gradual, consistent changes.

Now it's here's a new version and everything is different, results are different, the roster you built with custom weights now sucks because this new version needs new custom weights! Running offense has doubled on average while passing offense has been cut in half....oh and by the way....sacks have more then doubled!!!

I feel like everything I've created, all the money I've spent and all the hours I've invested are being thrown out the window!

JDB, I love this game and all the effort you have put into it. I've shown my appreciation by promoting this game while spending hundreds of dollars to buy credits over the years. All I'm saying is each new version is too drastically different from the last and there is no consistency.

Version 4.5 to version 4.6 implies small changes to the code to fix bugs and issues which led to exploits. This definately feels like a switch from 4.5 to Version 5.0.....at least that's been my experience in 40+ years of PC gaming.

I'm not someone who can tell you what to do or how to fix it...I'm a simple person who spends his money for a product I enjoy and that's how I feel!

I'm retreating to my 2 leagues and plan on stopping my posts anywhere but in those leagues. I will concentrate on trying to keep my leagues alive through this transition and I honestly hope I can successfully do that!
