Congratulations, Greg! Well earned and if I read correctly you held Voegma's Carolina team to 10 points. Having just played them that's quite a feat. He can flat out score with all his teams.

Yeah I'm familiar with Voegma, he is very tough to beat in any league. I was confident in my team but I was concerned after I saw the Panthers hung 49 on you in the CC. In this case, defense really did win the championship.

Great game to watch if you're a Raiders fan haha. It was more of a grind it out kind of game as I played keepaway/takeaway.

For sure it's difficult to win championships, I'm now 5-10 in the LC. There is little margin for error and these games often comes down to which team gets the most favorable "dice rolls", as both teams are usually solid in all 3 phases of the game.

Now I get to try to win my first back to back LC with a new game engine. I've had mixed offensive results in 4.4 but my defenses are still solid.

Agreed. I possess a terrible title record and as I reflect upon it maybe some of it is over-achieving with the team to get them there. But what is it that makes them so difficult to win? Oft times the team on the other side of the ball could be so well rostered (remember your getting the league's best at this point) with a cadre of 90+ DBs or 90+ Playmakers you could script the greatest gameplan ever and not win. There's just some you can't win.

Then there's the very exclusive club of GMs where no matter their roster structure the strategies they have in place will take you down on a 99% guaranteed level to the point well I don't know...lets say you have a 13k passer for the season with 110 passing touchdowns you're not going to win because the dice rolls of false starts, offensive holding penalties and interceptions all go his way before you know what hit you. :P

Then there's ones you over-produce and screw it up for yourself and of course ones where you say how did that happen??? And ones you flat out get beat in strategy because the other GM is just as kickass as you and it's a flat out, respectable war. :)

Got another chance to add to my trophy case. My New Jersey Generals just defeated the Baltimore Stars to make World Bowl VIII in the USFL/WFL league. This will be my 2nd World Bowl, having lost WB VI to the Memphis Showboats.

My opponent is 2 time Champion Detroit Wheels, managed by eyeballll. Oddsmakers have the Wheels as a 7 point favorite. In yards from scrimmage, Detroit is 4th in offense, 27th in defense. New Jersey is 10th and 1st respectively. Obviously I'm hoping defense wins another championship.

Kickoff is about 71 hours away (12:49 am eastern Monday morning).

Eyeballll is responsible for my 3 LC losses in CUST 79 when his Yellowknife Fight won 4 in a row. If he didn't leave that league, it's possible you and I are still seeking our first there.

Made my first championship in a 1st year ufa where I got killed. Did way better than I expected though. Got great line on both sides and hoping the skills I pick up in draft turn out well.
