With the preseason kicking off tonight, I will start releasing my team reviews Division by Division over the course of the entire preseason.
***DISCLAIMER*** I do this for fun and I express MY opinion based on MY player weights and MY style of play. I'm not trying to insult anyone and if fact really hope my writeups help educate so please don't take anything I say personal.
I'm also not the "greatest ever" or proclaim to be the "GOAT." I have a fair track record of success but my time & energy is put into my write-ups instead of my game planning and building my rosters.
Hopefully, everyone just enjoys this so that's enough explaining! ***DISCLAIMER***

VANCOUVER VANDALS OWNER: Lemon97 (2nd season) UNDER CAP: 78,698,066 LAST SEASON: 12-4 (Division Champ) RUN OFFENSE: 10th PASS OFFENSE: 7th TOTAL OFFENSE: 8th RUN DEFENSE: 19th PASS DEFENSE: 9th TOTAL DEFENSE: 15th TURNOVER MARGIN: -8

SUBTRACTIONS: TE Bobby Felan (PIT) 51 rec/558 yards/4 TD FB Douglas Smith (FA) 224 rush/114 rec LT Dee Snider (RET) 39 run blocks/73 pass blocks LT Jackie Todd (FA) 97 run blocks/7 pass blocks LG Robert Mathis (FA) 1 run block MLB Blake Johnson (FA) 70 tackles/24 passes defended/2 INTs WLB William Theus (FA) 13 tackles/12 passes defended CB Johnnie Shackleford (RET) 23 tackles/34 passes defended
DRAFT PICKS: CB David Hooks (1st) QB Thomas Gibbons (3rd) WR John King (4th) LG Andrew Perez (5th) RDE David Dodge (6th) QB Louis Patton (6th) LG Michael Trujillo (7th) P Gabriel Hughes (7th)
BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost their starting FB & TE plus 3 depth OL from last years 8th ranked offense. Despite having plenty of cap space, they didn't sign any free agents and instead used 5 draft picks to fill the holes on offense including 2 QBs. QB Bennett is clearly the starter so this feels more like search for a QB of the future. Defensively, they lost 2 LBs and a DB but only 1 LB started for last year's 15th ranked defense. Again, they signed no free agents and used just 2 draft picks to replace the loses.
PREDICTION: 11-5 It's Lemon's 2nd season as owner and I'm expected a slight step back due to some loses on the roster that weren't addressed in free agency or the draft. Still, they have enough talent to compete for Division Title but the entire Division has improved which should make the task more difficult.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 2 WR, 1 TE & 2 OL but only the TE started with 464 yards receiving & 1 TD reception. They added 1 RB & 2 WR in free agency who combined for 1,100+ yards rushing & 297 yards receiving. They drafted 2 WR, 2 OL & 1 QB to replace the loses and improve the offense. They had the 14th ranked rushing offense should should improve with the additions and they are hoping all the additions improve last year's 29th ranked pass offense. Defensively, they lost 6 DL, 2 LB & 5 DBs from last seasons 9th ranked defense. All the DL & LB losses were depth players and only 2 DBs played significant snaps accounting for 69 tackles, 11 knockdowns & 2 interceptions. They signed 6 DBs in free agency who combined for 189 tackles, 17 knockdowns & 2 interceptions. They drafted 1 DL, 2 LB & 3 DBs to add further depth to a defense that ranked 9th overall but just 24th in passing.
PREDICTION: 8-8 They had alot of turnover this off-season but primarily in depth as 18 players departed but only 2 were starters. They signed 9 players in free agency plus drafted another 11 players which should improve the teams overall depth & talent. They probably aren't ready to compete for the division Title yet but they should improve this season as they continue to build.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 2 backup QBs, 1 WR & 2 OL including 1 OL starter. They signed a QB, WR & OL in free agency to directly replace the 4 loses plus drafted 2 RBs in the later rounds to increase depth. They had the 13th ranked offense last season and will try to become a top 10 offense this season. Defensively, they lost 1 DL, 3 LB & 3 DB including 5 starters (2 LB/3 DB) who combined for 348 tackles, 52 knockdowns & 4 interceptions. They signed 2 DL & 2 LB in free agency plus drafted 1 DL, 1 LB & 4 DB to try and replace all the lost production from last year's 12th ranked defense.
PREDICTION: 10-6 They lost a ton of production on defense as they cycle out vets in favor of youth. I expect them to continue to compete for the division Title but they may take a small step back this season due to growing pains.

DRAFT PICKS: CB Anthony Costello (1st) WLB Kevin Frost (2nd) RDE Jordon Shepard (3rd) WR Dwight Treadway (4th) RT James Hillman (5th) CB Michael Williams (6th) CB William Williams (7th)
BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 4 WR & 3 OL from the 23rd ranked offense. Alarmingly, they lost a combined 886 yards rushing & 1,801 yards receiving which is roughly 75% of their rushing & 52% of their receiving yards from last season. They signed 1 RB, 2 WR & 2 OL in free agency plus drafted 1 WR & 1 OL to replace those significant loses. All the additions combined for just 64 yards receiving which raises many concerns about where the offensive production will come from. Defensively, they lost 3 DL, 2 LB & 4 DBs from last years 25th ranked defense. The loses on the DL combined for 35 tackles, 5 sacks & 4 hurries. The back 7 loses combined for 189 tackles, 29 knockdowns & 9 interceptions. They signed 1 DL, 2 LB & 2 DB in free agency plus drafted 1 DL, 1 LB & 3 DB to replace the loses. The additions combined for 214 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 hurries, 18 knockdowns & 3 interceptions.
PREDICTION: 4-12 They simple lost way too much offensive production without definitively replacing the departures. The defense should improve over last season since the draft was defense centered including the top 3 picks. They take a step back this season and will need to address the offense next off-season.

DRAFT PICKS: SLB Edward Agostini (5th) DT Karl Wilkins (6th) LT Morris Lombardo (7th) WLB Stephen Pennington (7th)
BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 5 OL but only 1 starter from last years #1 offense. They added 1 RB, 3 WR & 2 OL via trades & free agency led by 1 WR playmaker from Memphis. Defensively, they only lost 1 DB while they added 6 DB from free agency to try and improve on last year's 20th ranked defense.
PREDICTION: 13-3 The good news is Buffalo had very little turnover compared to the last couple seasons. The bad news is Buffalo had very little turnover compared to the last couple of seasons. While the roster has talent and Buffalo knows how to get the most out of its players, the youngest player(s) are in season 5 while 33 of 59 players will be playing at least their 10th season in the XFL. In fact, the average for the 59 players on the roster is 10.15 seasons in the XFL. The clock is ticking but they should hold off the young Empire for at least 1 more season.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 1 RB & 2 OL including 2 starters at RB & OL from last years 29th ranked offense. They lost their 2nd leading rushing and they signed just a backup QB in free agency. They drafted 4 OL to help fill the hole on the OL but they made no significant moves to improve at offensive playmaker. Defensively, they lost 2 DL, 1 LB & 2 DB from last years 25th ranked defense. They lost a combined 51 tackles, 13 knockdowns & 1 interception and they signed just 1 LB who had 2 tackles last season. In the draft, they selected 2 DL & 1 DB with the DL being the first 2 picks.
PREDICTION: 6-10 The argument can be made they lost more then they gained in the off-season and will need players to make up for those loses with better production. The schedule has some winnable games but I still see them taking a small step back this season.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost just a backup QB and a depth OL from their 5th ranked offense. They signed a backup QB, 1 WR & 2 OL to replace the loses and the WR had nearly 500 yards receiving & 5 TD receptions. They drafted 1 RB, 2 WR & 1 OL to bolster an already elite unit. Defensively, they lost 2 DL, 1 LB & 2 DB but only the LB was a starter from their 22nd ranked defense. They signed 3 DL, 3 LB & 2 DB to improve the unit plus added 1 DL in the draft. 5 of the free agent additions were starters last year and they combined for 327 tackles, 18 sacks, 46 knockdowns & 5 interceptions.
PREDICTION: 11-5 New York surprised teams last season as they started 5-0 before they put out enough tape and they went 5-6 down the stretch. They had a top 5 offense that returns mostly intact with another weapon added but if they want to match last seasons success they will need to improve from last years 22nd rated defense. They added enough talent for the defense to improve and they should once again challenge Buffalo for the Division crown.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 1 FB & 1 TE who were depth players from the 32nd ranked offense. They didn't sign any free agents but they drafted 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR & 1 OL as they try to build through the draft. Defensively, they lost 1 DL, 1 LB & 2 DB from last years 30th ranked defense. 1 of the 4 loses was a starter but they lost a combined 159 tackles, 15 knockdowns & 1 interception. They did sign a DB in free agency who had 50 tackles & 2 knockdowns last year plus they drafted 2 DL, 2 LB & 1 DB including the 5th overall pick at MLB.
PREDICTION: 4-12 Miami didn't spend money in free agency and are looking to build through the draft so I expect the growth to be slow as younger players gain experience. They should have a similar record as last season as they play in a Division with 2 playoff teams.

They also drafted 1 FB & 2 TE in the later rounds of the draft. Defensively, they lost 5 DL, 1 LB & 1 CB from last years 3rd ranked defense including 2 starting DT. They signed 4 DL & 2 DB in free agency including 2 starting DL & 1 starting DB. In the draft, they selected 1 DL & 3 LB including their 1st round DT pick.
PREDICTION: 11-5 Houston is coming off a season where they won the AXC Conference Championship before losing to Atlanta in the XFL Title game. All their playmakers return but they are completely rebuilding both their offensive & defensive lines. The schedule is difficult as they have 8 games versus playoff teams but they should win enough of them to compete for another Division Title.

Defensively, they return the entire 18th ranked defense from last season plus they signed a former ALLPRO LB while drafting 1 DL & 1 LB in the 4th & 5th rounds.
PREDICTION: 10-6 Pittsburgh is coming off a disappointing season as the team changed ownership during the season which seemed to trickle down throughput the entire organization. Before last season, they were the AXC Conference Champs in 2 of the previous 3 seasons so the team is returning most of their roster with a few additions and should bounce back this season with the stability a new owner brings.

Defensively, they lost 3 DL, 1 LB & 2 DB from last years 10th ranked defense including a starter at DT & LB. They signed 2 DL & 2 DB to offset some of the loses plus they drafted 2 DL, 1 LB & 1 DB.
PREDICTION: 9-7 Toronto has the misfortune of playing in the deepest division in the XFL. They haven't had a losing season for 10 straight years but they need to improve in Division games since they are 13-17 the past 5 seasons versus Division opponents. If they can win versus Division opponents then they can compete to win this Division.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they traded their starting QB, lost 3 WR & 5 OL from last years 10th ranked offense. In addition to getting rid of their starting QB, they lost a starting OL. The team became frustrated with QB Remy Beaucamp who took a giant step backwards last season after seemingly finally breaking though the previous season. They got a 1st rounder this season and a future 2nd rounder for him then they traded for 5× XFL Champion QB Michael Ceron from Atlanta who will compete with QB Leonard Thompson for the starting job. They also added 5 WR & 5 OL in free agency plus they drafted 1 WR & 4 OL as they really shoke up the roster. Defensively, they lost 3 DL, 4 LB & 3 DB including 2 starters each at LB & DB. They added 2 DL, 1 LB & 2 DB via trades & free agency plus they drafted 2 DBs including a 1st rounder.
PREDICTION: 10-6 Cincinnati made the postseason the last 2 seasons as a Wildcard but they clearly became frustrated with the #1 overall pick QB Remy Beaucamp who got benched at one point last season before being traded in the off-season. They really changed the roster and have a ton of cap space so the team looks poised for the future. The question becomes how does the team compete this season in the most competitive division in the XFL. I believe they find a way to finish near where they finished last season.

They signed a QB & OL in free agency who both started last season plus they drafted a RB & 2 OL including the top OL in the draft in the 1st round. Defensively, they lost 1 DL, 1 LB & 3 DBs from last years 21st ranked defense and all 5 were starters. They signed 2 DL & 1 DB in free agency and 1 DL & 1 DB started last season plus they drafted 2 DL, 1 LB & 2 DBs to fill the holes from the departures.
PREDICTION: 10-6 Orlando won Division Titles in 2043 & 2044 before back to back seasons where they underperformed despite not having a losing record. The slide can be traced to a transition to new ownership but with this being the 2nd full season for the new owner, the question becomes can they put it all back together and challenge for the Division Title.

They didn't sign any free agents but they did draft 2 DL, 2 LB & 1 DB including the DB in the 1st & LB in the 2nd round.
PREDICTION: 7-9 Texas had back to back 8-8 seasons before falling off a cliff last season where they finished 3-13. They were led by their defense which they upgraded via the draft with 5 selections including their top 2 picks. Their defense has talent and could be a top 10 unit and they need to rely on running the ball on offense but I except a better bounce back season for the Hold'em.

Defensively, they lost 5 DBs from last years 7th ranked defense. All the loses were rotational players so they signed 6 DBs to replace the loses plus they drafted 3 more DBs including thier 1st rounder.
PREDICTION: 11-5 Dakota has made the postseason in all 30 seasons of the XFL and I expect they will continue that streak on the strength of their defense. Their are concerns about them Offensively so its something to watch this season.

PREDICTION: 3-13 Daytona has been mired at the bottom of the AXC South for decades and they took a swing at the QB of the future in the 1st round of the draft and it was a big miss. I expect more of the same until they finally find a way to take the next step with the team.

They didn't sign any free agents but drafted 1 DL & 1 DB in the later rounds of the draft.
PREDICTION: 7-9 Brooklyn came under new ownership last season and had some serious growing pains adjusting to the new regime, winning just 4 games after back to back double digit win seasons. They struggled to run the ball last season and lost their leading rusher so the question becomes who gets the bulk of the carries and can they improve on last year's production. Defensively, they lost 1 DL & 2 DBs from last years 4th ranked defense and all 3 barely played. They didn't sign anyone but drafted 2 DL & 2 DBs including the 2 DBs with their 2nd & 3rd rounder.
PREDICTION: 13-3 Providence has won back to back Division Titles and made it all the way to the NXC Conference Championship game before losing a close game to Atlanta. They did lose some offensive production in the off-season but they drafted a potential playmaker in the 1st round who could easily replace the lost production. PREDICTION: 10-6 Philadelphia has made the postseason for 9 straight seasons with double digit wins in all 9 seasons. They made a blockbuster trade late in preseason to get some future high draft picks as they look to reset the roster somewhat in the future. They lost 5 starters from last season, 1 WR, 2 OL, 1 DL & 1 DB who they will try to replace with their additions but they have shown the ability to get the most out of their roster for the last decade.

They return just about the entire roster that went 14-2 last season and it's expected they will continue to own the NXC West but the regular season has never been their issue. BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost a QB, 1 WR & 4 OL from last years 16th ranked offense and all of them saw playing time including 3 starters on the offensive line. They added a starting WR through a trade with Atlanta plus they drafted 1 QB, 1 RB, 3 WR, 3 TE & 1 OL with 9 of their 10 draft picks. Defensively, they lost 1 starting LB to retirement and 2 starting DBs to free agency from last years 28th ranked defense. They signed 1 LB & 2 DBs in free agency plus drafted a DL.
PREDICTION: 8-8 Zehlendorf has had 9 consecutive losing seasons but they showed improvement last season, especially on offense and they made serious moves via a trade and the draft to further improve the offense. While they may still struggle at times on defense, they should continue to improve on offense and possibly end that 9 year skid.

They added 2 DL, 1 LB & 1 DB via free agency and a trade plus they drafted 1 DL, 1 LB & 2 DBs including the DL in the 1st and a DB in the 2nd round.
PREDICTION: 9-7 Montana was the victim of a brutal 1st place schedule last season and it hasn't gotten much easier this season as they have 8 postseason teams on their schedule. How they play in those games will determine their season and if they can compete with Gem City for the division Title.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 1 FB, 1 TE, 3 WR & 4 OL from last years 30th ranked offense including their leading rusher & 4th leading receiver. They signed a RB, FB, WR & OL in free agency and all 4 didn't play a single snap last season. They drafted a QB, TE, WR & 2 OL including the WR in the 1st round & TE in the 2nd round. Defensively, they lost 2 LB & 3 DBs from last years 29th ranked defense and all but 1 LB were starters. They signed 3 LBs & 3 DBs in free agency but all are reclamation projects who didn't play a single snap last season. They drafted a RDE in the 2nd round & FS in the 7th round of the draft.
PREDICTION: 3-13 Saint Paul has gone 8 straight seasons with a losing record and missing the postseason. Their highest win total in that stretch was 5 and in an off-season where they signed 10 players in free agency who didn't play a snap last season, it feels like they are looking to continue that trend. There is some hope as 1st round pick Mike Johnston could be special especially if he is used at RB1.

BREAKDOWN: Offensively, they lost 2 QBs & 2 WRs from last years 2nd ranked offense including their 3rd & 4th leading receivers plus a QB who won 5 Championships as starter but lost his starting job midway through last season after the team was sold to the new owner. They signed a veteran backup QB plus 2 WRs and an OL along with using their only draft pick on another OL. Defensively, they lost a backup LB & backup DB from last years #1 defense. They signed a DL, LB & DB to replace the loses as they return the entire starting 11 on defense.
PREDICTION: 16-0 Atlanta changed ownership in the middle of last season and it seemed to refocus the entire francise as they won their 6th straight XFL Title. I don't see much weakness so I'm thinking they never lose and win it all for a 7th time.

They signed a backup QB & starting OL in free agency plus drafted 1 RB, 3 WR & 1 OL including a WR with their highest draft pick in the 2nd round. Defensively, they lost 2 DL & 5 DBs from last years 5th ranked defense including 3 DBs they traded for draft picks. They signed 1 DL & 3 DBs to replace the players lost plus they drafted 2 LBs & 3 DBs to compete for roster spots.
PREDICTION: 13-3 Memphis has spent the last 6 seasons chasing Atlanta in the NXC South. An argument can be made that Memphis has been the best team in the XFL not named Atlanta. Memphis did sweep the season series over Atlanta and won the Division Title but lost to Atlanta in the Division round. Can Memphis rebound and win the Division again? Can they beat Atlanta in the postseason who they are 0-4 against in the past 6 years?

They made a trade for a starting QB with Cincinnati plus they signed a starting TE while they drafted a QB, TE, WR & 3 OL. Defensively, they lost 2 DL, 1 LB & 2 DBs from last years 32nd ranked defense but all 5 were backups. They signed a starter at DL & LB in free agency plus drafted a DT in the 1st round & a LB & DB late in the draft.
PREDICTION: 5-11 Carolina only went 3-12-1 last season but they actually improved on offense. They play in one of the toughest Divisions in the XFL as the other 3 teams all had double digit wins and Atlanta has won 6 straight Titles. The trade for QB Remy Beaucamp from Cincinnati should immediately improve the offense and Carolina should improve further this season.

They added 3 WRs & 4 OL in free agency plus drafted another WR & 2 OL in the draft. The 3 WRs signed combined for 931 yards rushing & 690 receiving. Defensively, they lost 4 DL, 1 LB & 5 DBs from last years 11th ranked defense. The loses combined for 457 tackles, 23 sacks, 34 hurries, 77 kd & 8 int. They added 3 DL & 6 DBs who combined for 220 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 hurry, 22 kd & 4 int. They also drafted 2 DBs in the 1st & 2nd round.
PREDICTION: 10-6 Tampa Bay got a new owner last year and he quickly went to work changing the roster and they win 10 games but just missed the postseason. Tampa didn't stand pat and again turned over the roster as 21 new players are on the roster. It seems they lost more on defense then they added but A. Jackson clearly knows what he is doing.
I'm just making guesses here so I hope nobody takes anything I say as an insult. I would love nothing better then to be "way off" and have somebody rub it in my face!!!
