I'm newer to the game and still learning. Do all attributes have the ability to change or are there some attributes (i.e. speed, strength, intelligence) that dont change throughout the career of a player. Also, does weight have an effect on the players performance and if so what effect? Thanks in advance.

Speed changes with age, and weight changes. If you take a rookie LB who is 240 lbs and move him to DE, the 30 some pounds he gains will cost him speed. It goes the other way if you try and make that LB a DB, the weight loss increases it a bit.
Good to know thanks! Does speed and strength change with development like in training camp or is it only related to weight change?

I read something about strength changing but don't remember exactly what it said. I usually only worry about speed and strength when deciding who to draft or sign as a FA. Once they are on my team I usually focus on the skill attributes.
Related to speed changing with weight, will the actual number change or does the number stay the same but since the weight is different then the speed is inherently different? For simplicity, we could say speed / weight = actual speed?

Another way to phrase it, is a receiver with the same speed as a lineman faster or equal?

It wasn’t always this way, but now the number means the same thing. And 80 speed OL will be as fast as an 80 speed WR. But, the heavier player will fatigue more quickly. If a player loses weight, you will see their speed number improve.

This explains why some ball carriers take off like a bat out of ****, then 5 yards later they run like a run stopping DT after an all you can eat buffet.

When you look at a players card.....Red equals current value and blue equals possible potential.
General attributes (strength, speed, acceleration, intelligence and discipline) rarely change for drafted rookies. Possible +/-1 change can happen but for the most part, what you see is what you get.
After drafting a player, general attributes like speed, acceleration and strength will change if you move them to a different position that will gain/lose them weight.
DEFENSE
1 level jump DL to LB lose weight....speed increase LB to DB lose weight...speed increase
2 level jump DL to DB lose weight...speed increase
OFFENSE
1 level jump WR to RB gain weight...speed decrease RB to FB gain weight...speed decrease FB to TE gain weight...speed decrease TE to OL gain weight...speed decrease
2 level jump WR to TE gain weight...speed decrease FB to OL gain weight...speed decrease WR to FB gain weight...speed decrease RB to TE gain weight...speed decrease
3 level jump RB to OL gain weight...speed decrease
4 level jump WR to OL gain weight...speed decrease
If you go in the other direction, its the exact opposite. Each level you jump increases the amount of weight lost/gained which effects speed
