No news is good news out of Providence where the Islanders had eight rookies all emerge from training camp in the range of +3 to -2. The minus outweighed the plus slightly as the average player result was -0.125...basically I got what I paid for in the draft.
#89 Robert Johnson TE R 5th round +5/+6 34/72 #61 Heath Cruz DT R 7th round +14/+5 40/66 #51 Christopher Howell RDE R 6th round +7/+9 33/58 #72 Ryan Brown RDE R 7th round +7/0 32/56 #98 Steve Ramos MLB R 6th round 3/-9 30/47 #46 James Edwards CB R 1st round +19/+2 60/86
The Punishers needed to get younger at almost every position...my RBs in particular, both are 10 year vets...so we drafted 2 RBs, hoping at least one would hit, but unfortunately they both busted.
#1 Julian Porter DT 16/2 Always nice when the 1st rounder improves.
#2 Jimmy Hernandez WLB 3/-2 Not too devastating, could still develop into a starter.
#3 Raymond Walker RB 3/-4 Still has some good numbers in key ratings.
#4 Lawrence Lamberth RB 6/-5 Could still be a backup, see how preseason develops.
#5 Jason Granderson LDE 12/3 Could turn out to be an effective starter. Happy with this pick.
#6 David Mares WLB 6/3 Slow, but could be a solid backup, wait and see project
#7 Tyrone Bonilla WLB 3/-10 Rolled the dice....came up snake eyes. Cut.
First, Wolveraider love the team name change and the helmet...very cool
Training camp was overall a success for the Champion Blizzard.
1.32 FS Robert Kirklin 17/4 61/83 vol 62 nice boom for 1st rounder who will start replacing my aging safety
2.2 RT Clarence Lively 12/-5 48/76 vol 46 He busted but will still make the team as young depth who will eventually play everywhere but C
2.32 LG Michael Brown 6/3 46/84 vol 94 nice little boom for my second 2nd rounder who will takeover starting at LG soon
5.12 DT Samuel Cockerman 9/2 39/71 vol 82 Slight boom for a 5th round flyer pick. Should make the team as DT4 as I release or trade an aging vet.
5.32 MLB Carl Heck 3/4 27/69 vol 66 Slight boom for a 5th rounder LB who will probaly make the team as some depth/ST
6.32 K Jamie Cantwell 5/-4 48/82 vol 26 disappointing bust for low vol kicker. Will be cut because he isnt close to my aging starter but I need a replacement soon....just wont be this year
7.32 WLB Martin Willis 3/-1 40/61 vol 38 Mr irrelevant busted slightly but he needed a massive boom to even sniff the roster.
2 starters and 3 depth players with 2 cuts. I will take that every single draft
Vic Mackey RDE (Pick 2.24) (+16/+1) The former Strike Team leader will hopefully strike down opposing QB's.
Avon Barksdale SS (Pick 3.24) (+17/+10) Jackpot! Barksdale goes from slingin crack in the Baltimore projects to a future stud SS in the XFL.
Ellstin Limehouse C (Pick 4.24) (+5/-5) From the show Justified, Limehouse seems ticketed to return to his farm in Kentucky unless stuff happens in camp.
Stringer Bell WLB (Pick 5.24) (+4/+4) Another Baltimore crack slinger though he didn't boom quite like Barksdale. Bell needs to work on tackling and run defense but man, can he cover receivers.
Christoher Moltisanti MLB (Pick 6.24) (+7/+1) The former Sopranos cast member and DT gained a lot of weight since filming wrapped but has already lost 15 lbs I believe as he transitions to LB. The Gangsters LB room will be quite crowded for awhile but we're hoping the extra competition brings out the best in everyone.
Marsellus Wallace DT (Pick 7.24) (+7/-9) Wallace will find himself out of work after he partied the whole training camp. This ain't Pulp Fiction buddy, you have to work hard to make millions in football.
