I have found similar ballots in USFL voting, where it's clear the person took almost no time at all.

I'm still hung up on the part where the USFL owners installed an OL in the HOF but not the most dominant CB the league had ever seen.

Personally, I'd favor a system where the commissioner reveals candidates. Then, anybody who cares can post their arguments for who should or shouldn't make it. The commissioner then chooses who he wants in the HOF, stamping his mark on the league.

I closed the voting. I made myself proxy vote for the 3 abstanees.

4 players made the Hall of Fame!

Next season/ballot....I'm gonna come up with a different system. I thinking of maybe making a Hall of Fame committee made up of 4 to 5 prominent owners to vote. I will pair that with every owner getting 1 vote, the committee getting a weighted vote and the admin/commish/me getting a weighted vote.

Something along those lines, anyway I will be posting a new Hall of Fame thread with the 4 inductees soon.

That's an excellent idea. The goal is to strike a balance. Definitely don't want any one and everyone getting in but also not restricting it so heavily that barely any player ekes through the stronghold.

One of the things I like about the multi-layer process is that it relieves some of us relative newcomers of responsibility. I feel like I'm at a disadvantage because I didn't play against any of these guys, so I'm limited to a stat line.

I may try something like that this time around in USFL. I've been disappointed in a lot of the votes, like how did anyone NOT vote for Mario Valencia. It takes several hours to pore over retired players, narrowing the candidates, typing brief stat bios, building the survey and getting people to vote. To then have people spend 2 minutes on it, submitting just 1 or 2 names, and they're the wrong names at that, makes me not want to do it.

Most likely, I'll whittle the list of candidates down to 12 or so and submit that as a poll question on the league forum and "elect" the top 3 or 4 in the voting.

Ensuring a certain # gets elected.

The way to do it as a voter is to go through it from the top to the bottom and do a quick eyeball test on if someone is a shoo-in or if someone's clearly lagging versus the other candidates. Toss in certainties and then trickle in a couple player distinctive guys with stats that stand out and call it a day.
