Ok now, my first pick in the draft is coming up. This is big folks, he's gonna be the face of my franchise so don't anyone take him! lol.
I feel in better shape than the Titans who don't pick till the sixth. As we are both (Titans and me) newbs and really picked up the teams in flight, if the Commish wants to, as we are not able to trade, I would be ok to just give up one of my 5th rounders for free to the Titans as we are both rebuilding and neither of us put our teams in this position. Just throwing that out there as a way to build some goodwill and show some sportsmanship on my part. Wolverines are a classy organization. Not like a 5th rounder will make or break either of us and shouldn't upset anyone else so I figure what the heck. Anyway, I'll leave that for Commish to decide and action as he sees fit. Now, if someone takes the face of my franchise before I can draft him, all bets and offers are off! lol. Kidding.

I didn't want to have to draft a kicker in the 5th when I have a perfectly good one on roster. But, I tried renegotiating a new contract with him and his agent demanded millions in signing bonuses. I have lots of key players on their last year and I'd be darned if I was gonna pay my kicker everything he wants only to have to let my RB go because I couldn't sign him because I was out of money.
Newb question, when do players who have 1 year left on their contract walk away? That is, how long do I have to sign them? Also, in terms of available money I have to work with, I can foresee me voiding some 6th or 7th round rookie contracts to sign a vet. Is that a common practice? Just curious. |

You can let the 5th - 7th go to camp and see how they progress as they have no bonus and wont give you dead cap for cutting. Personally, hardly anyone in that category ever makes my team. I make sure my guys are resigned before the end if year spin but I'm not positive that you cant do it on that sim.

You can sign a player up until the end of season spin.....any player in the last year of his contract becomes a free agent after the end of season spin.
Many owners end up voiding 6th and 7th so it's normal especially for cap reasons. Contracts are tricky. I dont know how old your current kicker is but whatever bonus he is asking for....you can prorate it out 6 seasons which incrreases the guaranteed money but helps lower the annual salary. PM me and I can walk you through it. |

Players on contract do not walk until the end of the season, so you have the whole season to decide if you want to keep him or not.
Players chosen in the 5th - 7th rounds start getting paid before the first regular season game, so decide in the preseason whether you are going to keep them or not. There is no penalty for waiting that long. When you are renegotiating, use this tool in order to save money: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CmTtP5yJ2gzR7gaCdzSulvPna_9BgUszMKnYIZPn9PI/edit?usp=sharing There is no way in the world you should spend such a big bonus on a kicker. |

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions guys! Much appreciated!
I had used the renegotiating tool and that's when I was like, man, I'm screwed by this kicker! Darn agents! lol. My team must be really bad, I'm still drafting guys who may end up seeing action yet with my contract situation cause I'm gonna lose some good guys, even with the negotiating tool! I drafted a FB because his potential on the O line where I need some depth is better than I can find with actual O line in the draft now. lol All part of the fun. Thanks again guys. |
