XFL 30th anniversary

By Cjfred68 - League Admin
8/17/2023 1:14 pm
I've been busy updated the numerous threads in the XFL and just finished the Hall of Fame Ballot.

Once the votes are in then I have to do my HOF writeup for the lucky few. I also have the 1st round draft review coming during the next few days.

After that I have to finalize all the team history's so I can post that too. After that & the draft....I start my preseason camp tour/predictions.

Finally, after all that and between my weekly news & notes....I hope to highlight some things here in the 30th anniversary thread. I don't have any specifics yet but I have a few ideas to celebrate 30 seasons of the XFL.

Stay tuned & thanks for playing a part in this great league and for the love of God....can somebody beat Atlanta???

If nobody is gonna step up then maybe I will just do it myself!!!!!

2047 Owners Tenure

The league has a nice mix of longterm owners (20+ seasons), vested owners (10+ seasons), emerging owners (5+ seasons) and new owners (under 5 seasons).

20+ seasons
30. Cjfred68 (Dakota)
30. Smirt211 (Buffalo)
28. Trslick (Montana)
27. Raidergreg69 (Gem City)
26. Claymore (Vegas)
24. John97334 (New England)
24. Privatesnowflake (Houston 18/Oakland 6)
21. Voryzover (Daytona)

We have 8 owners, 25% of Total owners entering at least their 21st season in the XFL. This is the backbone of the XFL who has helped the league reach its 30th season. Our 4 owner HOF committee comes from this group and the 8 owners have combined for 29 of 58 (50%) Conference Championships & 15 of 29 (51.7%) XFL Titles.

10+ seasons
16. Waitwut (Philadelphia 10/Brooklyn 6)
14. Blondie1977 (Cincinnati)
14. Jabillups85 (Texas)
13. Dangalanti (New York 3/Toronto 10)
12. Ctiger77 (Zehlendorf)
11. Mlowe (Indiana)
11. Pc2246 (Saint Paul 4/Arizona 7)
10. Brucehum (Miami 9/Houston 1)

These 8 owners have 10 years of ownership which means 50% of the 32 owners have been in the league at least 10 seasons. This group has combined to make the postseason 33 times but has just 1 Conference Championship & 0 XFL Titles.

5+ seasons
9. Armoredgiraffe (Arizona)
9. Rialto (Seattle)
9. Legendruthless (Memphis 8/Zehlendorf 1)
8. Brxnivy (Providence)
6. DrHayHurst (Carolina)
5. Shark1720 (Washington 2/Orlando 3)
5. Warthog (Los Angeles)

These 7 owners are entering at least their 5 season as owner which means 71.9% of all owners are playing at least their 5th season. They have combined for 21 postseason appearances but no Conference Championships or XFL Championships.

Under 5 seasons
4. Thanos4real (Toronto)
3. Mcbolt55 (Kansas City)
3. Mwd65 (Oakland)
2. Lemon97 (Vancouver)
2. Loftusranger (Orlando)
2. Dadub3 (Brooklyn)
2. Action-Jackson (Tampa Bay)
2. Warrior462 (Pittsburgh)
2. Hammond (Atlanta)

These are the 9 newest owners in the league and they have combined to make the postseason 5 times while winning 1 Conference Championship & 1 XFL Championship.

30th ANNIVERSARY SPOTLIGHT

Throughout the season I will be spotlighting some of the greatest players in XFL history. We will start with QB Randal Cunningham who is the Alltime greatest QB in XFL history.

QB Randal Cunningham

8x ALLPRO (1st Alltime)
5× MVP (1st Alltime)
2033 HOF INDUCTEE

He was drafted in the 8th round of the leagues allocation draft becoming the 254th player selected out of Boston College by the Dakota Blizzard. He would play 15 seasons for Dakota winning 7 AXC Conference Championships & 3 XFL Championships.

He finished 1st Alltime in passing yards (77,943), still 23,346 more yards then the 2nd most in league history. The closet active QB is Anthony Henderson (MEM) who has 35,089 as he enters his 14th season.

He finished 1st Alltime in passing TDs (701), 330 more then the 2nd most in league history. The closest active QB is Gary Fielding who has 255 TD passes as he enters his 10th season.

He also finished 2nd Alltime in pass attempts (8,657) & 1st Alltime in completions (5,967). That's 375 more completions then the 2nd most Alltime in XFL history. The closest active QB is Steven Stiner who has 3,384 completions as he enters his 13th season with Philadelphia.

Cunningham's career QBR is 113.05 which ranks 2nd Alltime among qualified QBs behind only HOF QB Juan Kirk (BUF) who finished with a QBR of 115.11 in 10 seasons.

He finished 3rd Alltime in career yards/attempt (9.00) among qualified QBs behind just QB Robert Schiffman (ATL) & QB Juan Kirk (BUF) who had 9.44 & 9.43.

In the postseason, he is 1st Alltime in passing yards (10,593), 4,941 more yards then the 2nd most Alltime in XFL history. The closest active QB is Robert Alvarez, a fellow Dakota Blizzard QB who has 5,396 passing yards.

He is also 1st Alltime in postseason TD passes (64), 21 more then the 2nd most Alltime in XFL history. The closest active QB is Robert Alvarez, a fellow Dakota Blizzard QB who has 41 TD passes.

He is also 1st Alltime in pass attempts (1,482) & completions (962) which is 474 pass attempts & 374 completions more then the 2nd most in XFL history.

OTHER RECORDS

PASSING YARDS GAME

2nd Alltime 785 passing yards
5th Alltime 722 passing yards

PASSING TDs GAME

2nd Alltime 10 TD passes
5th Alltime 9 TD passes (×3)

PASSING YARDS SEASON

1st Alltime 7,618 yards
6th Alltime 6,380 yards

PASSING TDs SEASON

1st Alltime 87 TD passes
2nd Alltime 63 TD passes
4th Alltime 59 TD passes (×2)
10th Alltime 53 TD passes

GREATEST SEASON IN XFL HISTORY

In 2031, Randal Cunningham was playing his 14th season of his 15 season HOF career and he put together the single greatest season by a QB in XFL history.

He was 404 for 573 on pass attempts (70.5%) where he threw for 7,618 yards (1st Alltime), 87 TD passes (1st Alltime) & 13 interceptions. He would be sacked just 12 times while posting a 13.29 yds/att (1st Alltime) which gave him a QBR of 143.05 (1st Alltime).

SUSTAINED DOMINANCE

Below is a list of the top 13 passing yards seasons in XFL history and Randal Cunningham has 7 of those 13 seasons.

UNDISPUTED GOAT

As we enter the 30th season of the XFL, individual records with be broken but its hard to imagine a QB approaching the career numbers Randal Cunningham posted in his 15 season career.

It would take some player who starts from his rookie season and plays at least 15 seasons while posting at least 7 Alltime seasons along the way.

QB Robert Alvarez & QB Gary Fielding are both entering their 10th season and would need insane production over the next 7 to 8 seasons to even approach Cunningham's numbers.

QB Robert Alvarez
34,962 yards
237 TD passes
NEED
42,981 yards (5,372 average/8 seasons)
464 TD passes (58 average/8 seasons)

QB Gary Fielding
34,016 yards
255 TD passes
NEED
43,927 yards (5,490 average/8 seasons)
446 TD passes (56 average/8 seasons)

Buffalo's QB Matthew Whitney is entering his 7th season and has posted insane numbers over the past several seasons.

QB Matthew Whitney
21,641 yards passing
138 TD passes
NEED
56,302 yards (5,630 average/10 seasons)
563 TD passes (56 average/10 seasons)

30th ANNIVERSARY SPOTLIGHT

Throughout the season I will be spotlighting some of the greatest players in XFL history. We continue with WR Derek Looney who is the Alltime greatest WR in XFL history.

WR Derek Looney

2x ALLPRO
2042 HOF INDUCTEE

He was drafted in the 1st round of the 2030 draft out of Towson State by the Dakota Blizzard. He would play 12 seasons for Dakota winning 4 AXC Conference Championships & 2 XFL Championships.

He finished 1st Alltime in receiving yards (16,726), still 3,892 more yards then the 2nd most in league history. The closet active WR is James Fain (MEM) who has 11,029 as he enters his 7th season.

He finished 1st Alltime in TD receptions (157), 28 more then the 2nd most in league history. The closest active WR is James Fain (MEM) who has 95 TD passes as he enters his 7th season.

He also finished 3rd Alltime in receptions (779) & his average per catch (21.5) is ranked 1st Alltime among WRs with at least 200 receptions. He finished behind HOF TE Pedro Clark & HOF RB Arthur Partridge in receptions but active WR James Fain is fast approaching his receptions total with 767.

In the postseason, he is 1st Alltime in receiving yards (2,781), 1,013 more yards then the 2nd most Alltime in XFL history in active WR Terrance McConkey (ATL) who is playing his 9th season.

He is also 1st Alltime in postseason TD receptions (22), 5 more then the 2nd most Alltime in XFL history. The closest active WR is James Fain (MEM) who has 14 TD receptions.

He is also 1st Alltime in receptions (147), 20 more then the 2nd most Alltime. The closest active WR James Fain has 98 receptions.

His average yard per catch in the postseason is 18.9 which ranks 5th Alltime among WRs with at least 20 receptions.

All told he holds 2/3 of the regular season triple crown stats for a WR while holding 3/3 of the postseason triple crown stats for a WR.

We are celebrating the XFL's 30th season but by the time we celebrate its 40th season, James Fain may become the greatest WR Alltime in the XFL but only time will tell.

OTHER RECORDS

RECEIVING YARDS GAME

9th Alltime 356 yards
10th Alltime 352 yards

TD RECEPTIONS GAME

8th Alltime 5 TD receptions (×2)

RECEIVING YARDS SEASON

4th Alltime 2,684

TD RECEPTIONS SEASON

1st Alltime 30 TD receptions

POSTSEASON GAME RECEPTIONS

6th Alltime 13 receptions

POSTSEASON GAME RECEIVING YARDS

4th Alltime 269 yards
9th Alltime 236 yards
10th Alltime 230 yards

POSTSEASON TD RECEPTIONS

4th Alltime 3 TD receptions (×3)

With the greatest QB in XFL history & the greatest WR in XFL history both playing for Dakota, the assumption would be that the two fueled each others careers but ironically, Randal Cunningham & Derek Looney only played 3 seasons together (2030-2032).

The two players did team up for the greatest season by a QB in XFL history (2031) which was detailed above.
