Welcome to my 2nd annual 1st round draft recap. This recap is evaluated by me, using my player weights and my assessment of your teams and where this player fits best. This is strictly my opinion and of course is weighted by the fact that players boom or bust in training camp. I grade picks as 1. Great, 2. Solid, 3. OK, 4. Reach and 5. Horrible. With that being said, let's get started....
1-1 Gem City (Raidergreg69)
Raidergreg packaged several 1st round picks to move up to the #1 pick. After much deliberation, he chose semi-pro LB, Martin Sims. Sims is a prototypical LB with decent speed and excellent tackling, run defense, pass rush and cover skills. Despite some off the field issues which shortened his college career, Sims should excel in the XFL with its liberal drug policies. This fills a need for Gem City and fits into the direction of the league as we enter a need era of offense. The new era will be dictated by running the ball and stopping the run as well as the increase in short passing and having LBs cover backs in the short passing game. Great pick
1-2 Brooklyn (Amalric7)
Brooklyn selects WR, James Jett. Jett is as fast as his name implies, pure speed and acceleration, he shows no fear going across the middle. James Jett out of Nebraska instantly becomes Brooklyns #1 WR even before taking a snap. An interesting pick, as the league transitions away from the deep vertical passing game, but a talent such as this is hard to pass. Solid PickĀ
3-1. Baltimore (Frosty96)
Baltimore traded up 3 spots to grab the best DB on the board. Larry Cummings from Penn State can play anywhere in the secondary but his great run stopping skills make him primed to play SS. There are some questions with his size at 5'10" whether he can transition to the pros but he has all the intangibles to become a playmaker in the secondary. Solid pick
1-4. Kansas City (Arjona16)
With the 4th pick, KC selects RG, Robert Burns out of Georgia. Burns is a big strong southern boy that some scouts believe has the size, speed and strength to play LT. He may be somewhat of a project but if he can make the transition, he could be protecting the blindside for KC for the next decade. Solid pick
1-5 Cleveland (Tman0115)
Nathan Miller, the all purpose back from Grambling goes #5. Miller made up about 75% of the total offense at Grambling, he can run it, split out wide and catch it plus return kicks. Some scouts question his speed at the pro level but he has upside for a team that can use him the right way. Solid pick.
