Training camp

Good luck to everyone as we all roll the dice and figure out if our draft picks will take our team to the next level or become future dead cap cuts!

Welp this is probably my worst camp ever. My top 3 picks were -4, -7, -16. The -4(1.1) is still great but 2.4 and 2.9 are crappy backups at best.

Let's start with the boom -- Round 4 Oklahoma pickup Hector Peterson. This is a kid who came to play! Entering training camp as a hopeful backup FB, Peterson exploded on the scene (20/11). He is now the odds-on favorite to be starting for the team come the regular season and is also getting looks for reps as both a RB and a TE if needed.

The "as-expected" crowd includes WR Jeffrey Vachon (Rnd. 2, 17/1), RB Michael Cline (Rnd. 1, 3/0) and RG Stacey Page (Rnd. 5, 2/-1). Vachone and Cline are cemented into active duty. Page's future is far murkier and "as-expected" might not be good enough to land him a roster spot.

As for the busts...RT David Bischoff (Rnd. 7, 9/-6) and CB Paul Hare (Rnd. 6, 3/-9) both whiffed.

Drafted 3 WRs to replace aging vets.

Robert Campbell 1st 10/6. 51/85
Rex Johnson 4th 2/-6. 34/61
Richard Munoz 5th 1/-4. 35/63

Drafted a QB to replace backup

Jimmie Smith 5th 14/-4. 52/65

Drafted a RG to become starter

Joseph Burkett 2nd 15/2. 48/84

Drafted a SLB to add depth

Eddie Noonkester 4th 6/-1. 49/68

Found a starting WR and RG plus SLB will probably make the team as depth/st player.

2 WRs and QB will be cut outright after preseason.

Filled 2 holes so Im happy, would have been ecstatic if either of the +95 speed WRs had boomed but they were gambles anyway. Hate to give up on 97 and 95 speed players but I doubt I can keep em

Daytona's strategy worked out better than expected! With 17 picks and one undrafted free agent, we had 12 booms and one bust. Only 2 players had a volatility of less than 80, so we expect those booms to continue to progress throughout the next few seasons.

Wr: Ray +1/-7, Herman +13/+8

Ol: Wooley +3/-4, McGowan 0/-26, Rock +9/+10, Chavers +11/+13, Daniel +9/+1

De: Lyons +7/+6, Fritz +7/+4

Dt: Esparza 0/-19, Wright +5/-3, Stewart +10/+8

Lb: Geist +10/+8, Maize +9/+6, Roger's +4/+7

Secondary: McCaughey +9/+7, Scheerer +20/+8, Ureno +4/-11

With this progression, we have added future starters at DT, up to 3 LBs, 1 CB, a nickleback, slot wr, and 1-3 olinemen.

It was either hit or miss in the Gem City.

Pretty happy with the draft....the roster is loaded with aging veterans, so for the most part I just went with the best player available.

No terrible busts and pretty happy with my second round LT going +4. The first 3 picks should turn out to be viable starters....my wr and cb will be backups....didn't really need the punter (have a decent young punter), but stuck with best available.

#82 Sebastian McLendon TE R 13/0
#77 Sergio Rodriguez LT R 11/4
#56 David Olvera WLB R 3/1
#84 James Romero WR R 10/-2
#34 Lynn Simmons CB R 4/-1
#7 Graham Hughes P R 4/4
