Toronto, Canada – The Cleveland franchise of the XFL have announced new ownership ahead of the 2027 season.
The organisation has announced that Canadian business mogul Stephano Papacosta, has taken over ownership of the Cleveland franchise,
Mr. Papacosta says he plans to make big changes to the franchise, which hasn’t had a winning season in its history.
“It is an honour to own a franchise in one of the most prized leagues in all of North America” said Mr. Papacosta. “I have plans for this franchise. The first being relocation. We received complete support from the XFL to move the team to Toronto, which will now be known as the Toronto Titans. The entire Titans team will be dedicated to the continued growth of the fan experience, never ceasing to make a positive impact on this community, and celebrating the game with the hundreds of thousands of football fans in the Toronto area. And to make the fan and player experience a special one, the new 80,000 capacity, retractable roof, Labatt 50 Stadium is complete and ready to go for the 2027 season.”
“I’m a practical man, but an ambitious one as well. We have a 5 year plan that sees us on top of the AXC North division, and competing for a championship. But we have to be honest with ourselves. This franchise needs to be rebuilt.” said Mr. Papacosta. “We have some tough decisions to make very shortly, from the coaches to the players. There will be changes to this franchise. Unfortunately, the negotiating process for this franchise lasted longer than we thought it would, and because of that we missed the beginning of free agency which has the Titans starting off badly for the 2027 season.”
“Make no mistake about it; we are committed to this franchise. Every move we make going forward will be towards winning” said Mr. Papacosta.
When asked about his first son being draft eligible for the 2028 draft, Mr. Papacosta stated, “I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for a chance to draft my son. I believe he has the tools to be a very good player in this league. Unfortunately, other teams will think that as well and they’ll have a chance to draft him. We’ll see what happens.”
Mr. Papacosta concluded, “I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the city of Toronto and province of Ontario for the 100% government funded stadium, and the fans that’ll buy the season tickets no matter the cost. It’s greatly appreciated.”
