Welcome to my 2nd annual 1st round draft recap. This recap is evaluated by me, using my player weights and my assessment of your teams and where this player fits best. This is strictly my opinion and of course is weighted by the fact that players boom or bust in training camp. I grade picks as 1. Great, 2. Solid, 3. OK, 4. Reach and 5. Horrible. With that being said, let's get started....

1-1 Gem City (Raidergreg69)

Raidergreg packaged several 1st round picks to move up to the #1 pick. After much deliberation, he chose semi-pro LB, Martin Sims. Sims is a prototypical LB with decent speed and excellent tackling, run defense, pass rush and cover skills. Despite some off the field issues which shortened his college career, Sims should excel in the XFL with its liberal drug policies. This fills a need for Gem City and fits into the direction of the league as we enter a need era of offense. The new era will be dictated by running the ball and stopping the run as well as the increase in short passing and having LBs cover backs in the short passing game. Great pick

1-2 Brooklyn (Amalric7)

Brooklyn selects WR, James Jett. Jett is as fast as his name implies, pure speed and acceleration, he shows no fear going across the middle. James Jett out of Nebraska instantly becomes Brooklyns #1 WR even before taking a snap. An interesting pick, as the league transitions away from the deep vertical passing game, but a talent such as this is hard to pass. Solid PickĀ

3-1. Baltimore (Frosty96)

Baltimore traded up 3 spots to grab the best DB on the board. Larry Cummings from Penn State can play anywhere in the secondary but his great run stopping skills make him primed to play SS. There are some questions with his size at 5'10" whether he can transition to the pros but he has all the intangibles to become a playmaker in the secondary. Solid pick

1-4. Kansas City (Arjona16)

With the 4th pick, KC selects RG, Robert Burns out of Georgia. Burns is a big strong southern boy that some scouts believe has the size, speed and strength to play LT. He may be somewhat of a project but if he can make the transition, he could be protecting the blindside for KC for the next decade. Solid pick

1-5 Cleveland (Tman0115)

Nathan Miller, the all purpose back from Grambling goes #5. Miller made up about 75% of the total offense at Grambling, he can run it, split out wide and catch it plus return kicks. Some scouts question his speed at the pro level but he has upside for a team that can use him the right way. Solid pick.

1-6 LA (A) (Bhass)

LA traded down 3 spots and landed DE Robert Page from Jackson State. Jackson has all the attributes to be a dominant edge rusher. He should bookend nicely with 2nd year end Mike Darwin who had a disappointing first season but with the addition of Page, they both could benefit from each other and terrorize QBs for years to come. Great pick

1-7 SF (CPU)

The team still looking for new ownership uses a committee to select LB Larry Tabor. A safe pick that should start but scouts believe he has little upside. Tabor was considered a late 1st round, early 2nd round pick. Reach.

1-8 NY(N) punisher

The first real head scratcher of the draft. With the eight overall pick, punisher selects FB, Robert Pritchett out of Michican State. Not only was Pritchett not projected in the top ten or the first round, most experts had him as the 20th ranked FB on the board. He was projected to go in the 6th or 7th round or even possibly to go undrafted. In fact, when NY called Robert to inform him that he was the #8 pick, he hung up on them 3 times believing his friends were pranking him. Horrible pick, should instantly void his contract and save the 20 million, wasted pick

1-9 Indianapolis (CPU)

Another team without an owner takes the 3rd LB in the top ten of the draft. It seems LB may be replacing the DB in this new era but only time will tell. Solid pick.

1-10 NY(A) (Brohl)

With the tenth pick, Brohl selects defensive lineman from UCLA, James Brown. The Godtather, James Brown is a high risk, high reward type pick. He could bulk up and play tackle or trim down and become an edge rusher. He has raw ability and only time will tell if this pick pays off. Ok pick

1-11 Jacksonville (Gabe778)

Controversial media magnet Gabe778 picked RB Peter Keen with the 11th pick. Amongst a failed Radio network and a sell off of syndicated assets, Gabe hasnt been seen or heard from in the days leading up to the draft . Keen, a 222 lb bruising running back doesnt have great speed but can break some tackles. Ok pick.

1-12 Detroit (trslick)

The 2nd true WR, Daniel Pence is Detroits pick. Coming out of Middle Tennessee State, scouts see Pence as a great #2 WR with upside to become a true #1. Detroits current WR1 is Brian Lozano but he lacks the speed to stretch the defense. Pence should add that ability despite the fact he isnt as fast ad #2 pick James Jett. Solid pick

1-13 LA(N) (Ken357)

The next pick is Frank Sorrell, s hyrid OLB/DE out of Wake Forest. Sorrell is the classic teeener that can blitz out of the 2 point or 3 point stance. Adding him to a defense with DEs Erlandson and Anderson should greatly increase LAs pass rush. Solid pick.

1-14 LA(A) (Bhass)

LAs 2nd pick in the 1st round has them addressing the need on their offensive line. Tommy Fulmore out of Iowa played RT in college and can play anywhere besides center. If he fills out his frame and adds 20 to 30 lbs, he had a high ceiling. Solid pick

1-15 Miami (Gridironfan)

Miami makes Frederick Good, the first true cover corner out of Texas A&M. He had good size and can play safety but his speed and cover skills make him an ideal corner back. Miami had a definate need at corner.
Great pick.

1-16 Philadelphia (Jouameng)

They select the swiss army knife out of Colorodo, Larry Pearce. Pearce is listed as a WR, but his best positions may be either TE or FB. He can play WR but his speed may limit him as a true 1 or 2. He has the size, strength and speed to be an elite TE or FB and could play oline in a pinch. Great pick, very versatile.

1-17 Chicago (james32)

Chicago takes the 3rd DB of the 1st round. Patrick Fomby from Syracuse may he the fastest high level DB in the draft. He has decent size at 5'11" and good cover skills. Solid pick

1-18. Baltimore (frosy96)

Frosty96 makes his 2nd selection in the first round a high risk/high reward LB out of Washington college. Samuel Greenwald can play inside or outside LB and scouts say he has all the intangibles to become an elite player in the league. If he can transition his game from college to the pros, he could be special. If Baltimore can hit on both of their 1st round picks, they could quickly improve a defense that finished last season ranked #2 overall. Solid pick

1-19 Pittsburgh (armchairqb)

Pittsburgh selects D-lineman out of Rice, Alex Leavitt. At 6'4", 306 lbs, he is best suited at DT but has some speed to play DE. Solid pick

1-20 Carolina (jon75)

Taylor Roberts, a guard from Nebraska is the 20th pick. At 6'5", 309 lbs, he has great size but scouts question his ability to pass block. With several other higher rated oline still on the board this pick seems like more of a reach.

1-21. Washington (crm63)

Wasgington selects RB, Peter Morales out of Brigham Young University. Morales is a hard hitting back with subpar speed that may be best suited at FB. Ok pick

1-22 Tampa Bay (casualcnote)

With the 22nd pick, Tampa selects Anthony Thomas (RB) from Northern Illinois. Thomas has good speed and great hands. Scouts see him as either an all purpose back or possibly a reciever in the slot. His versatility may make him a star if he can transition his game from small college to the pros. Solid pick

1-23 New England (dendro)

A team under new ownership, they had their hands full trying to handle the draft while taking over and reviewing the francise. They selected Alan Robinson, a linebacker out of Oklahoma. Scouts see Robinson as a cant miss pass rusher, considered a tweener that can play either defensive end or outside linebacker. He should have an impact in year 1. Great pick

1-24 Memphis (cpu)

Lots of upheaval with this franchise. A new owner bought the francise, uprooted them and moved to Memphis. Then a barrage of trades and draft selections had them challenging defending champs Atlanta for the division crown. After making it to the playoffs in his first season, the owner filled chapter 11 bankrupcy and now the league has assembled a committee to handle team affairs until new ownership can be determined. Despite all the distractions, Memphis selects Cory Espinoza, a Running Back out of Texas. Solid pick

1-25 Cincinnati (fhunt3)

Fhunt3 and his Cincinnati team have been perennial playoff contenders. With their 1st round pick they select LT, Steve Chang.A second straight player out of Texas University. Scouts see Chang as a project with decent pass blocking upside but poor run blocking fundamentals. Reach pick

1-26 Memphis (cpu)

Memphis 2nd 1st rounder is Abel Clark, a defensive tackle from Pittsburgh. Draft experts saw Clark as a late 2nd, early 3rd round pick. Reach pick

1-27 Dakota (cjfred68)

Near the bottom of the 1st round, cjfred68 used the best player available formula to select RT from Oregon, Michael Lambert. He has the size, speed and strength neccessary to play tackle and is considered a high risk/high reward pick. Ok pick

1-28 Green Bay (beefkabaab)

Green Bay selected cover corner out of California, Claude Torgeson. Draft experts view him as a cant miss pick and considering he dropped to 28th is a steal. Great pick

1-29 Atlanta (chrisbronext)

Atlanta uses the 29th pick to select Matthew Everett (RB) from the University of Tennessee. Decent speed and good ball handling skills make this a solid pick.

1-30 Buffalo (smirt211)

Smirt211 selects Wesley Richards (RB) from Georgia. At 248 lbs and with good speed Richards has the size and versatility to play RB, FB OR TE. Smirt211 has proven that he can get the most out of players with this type of versatility. Great pick

1-31 Seattle (timreesejr)

Media mogul Timreesejr has had a very sucessful year both in and out of football. With his team reaching the league championship and the successful launch of XFL radio, everything he touches has turned to gold. So look for Clement Hadnot (WR) from the University of Houston to make an impact next season. Solid pick.

1-32. Oakland (privatesnowflake)

The defending, 2 time XFL champions make Louie Cannon (LB) out of Alabama the last pick of the first round. This has the potential to be the best pick of the draft. Draft experts believe with his elite speed and cover skills, if he drops weight and switches to CB, he has the potential to become a lockdown corner. Its a risky pick but if it pans out, Oakland could become even harder to beat. great pick
