Who are you (who who, who who)...

If folks don't want to chime in, that's fine, but I've always found part of the fun of an active league is getting to know the folks you interact with a bit. Since one season in this league has me hooked, I figure I'll throw a bit about me out there and if folks want to do likewise underneath, that's great. Here goes...

I'm a 48 year-old high school teacher and debate coach living in Honolulu, Hawai'i, where I teach for a private college-prep school dedicated to the preservation and promotion of native Hawaiian culture and language. I had actually never been to Hawai'i before being hired here and I don't have a drop of Hawaiian blood in me as best I know. All my interviewing and such was done via the phone and internet, so the first time I set foot here was about 10 days before I started the job, so it has been a crazy 5-year adventure so far.

I've been a gamer for a good chunk of my life. Started out with role playing games...I did some freelance work for the 2nd edition of Dungeons & Dragons and various other games that nobody has ever likely ever heard of for companies that now largely no longer exist. Sports sims and especially sports management sims pulled me in during college -- we had a crazy dorm filled with sports types so there was always some type of league going...don't know if anyone has heard of the old Mac game called Playmaker football, but we had a league in our dorm with games Wednesday nights and weekends...home field advantage meant the game was in your room and the other guy brought the beer and snacks. In the spring we had a Pursue the Pennant baseball league. Somehow we mostly managed to attend classes as well. I"m also one of those weird folks that used to buy Madden or EA's NCAA football series for the PS2 and then run the thing in management/coaching mode rather than try to control my fake players with the controller in-game.

My own sports experience is pretty dull. I played 2 seasons on my college golf team (D3) before getting involved in a terrible car accident late in my sophomore year of college that left me unable to swing a club for much of the summer. I am a horrible patient, so following the advice and timeline of rehab didn't go over well with me, and I also didn't have a lot of patience back then, so not getting back to the level I knew I could play with quickly enough was really messing with my head and emotions, so I dropped the team and that was the end of my sports "career" such as it was.

So...yeah...that's me :)

I'll play........Im 51 years old, live in Baltimore Md and I work in the field of data analysis. I have always loved numbers and statistics, playing games like statis-pro football and baseball along with other card based games ranging from golf to wrestling. Of course, all this led to the computer gaming of the 80s and 90s where I played games like Earl Weaver Baseball, Front Page Sports Football, and later Out the Park Baseball and Football Mogul.

My love of statistics led me to Stanford where I got a degree in that field with my goal of landing a job with a pro sports team which would eventually lead me to become General Manager of the Baltimore Orioles. After graduating, I pursued positions in both professional Football and Baseball front offices mainly as an intern but life happened. I fell in love, got married and soon my first kid was on the way.

I worked in the private sector for a few years before a headhunter contacted me about a job in government which I took in 1993 and have been working there ever since.

Ive been playing this game for over a year and I love the roster building/roster management aspect of the game along with the statistical data that is accumulated over the coarse of games, seasons and players careers.

I was apprehensive about become league admin of this league but now I love it. I hope this league lasts for many seasons, enough seasons to eventually have our own hall of fame where everyone can vote on retired players careers and decide if they deserve to be in the hall of fame. I love doing the breakdowns that I do in this league and I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I enjoy writing them.

I am 53 years old and living in Muncie, Indiana. I just moved here last Aug after spending all my life in Ohio (mostly near Cleveland)
My love for sports and games goes back to the 70’s with Strat O Matic and the Sports Illustrated games. I was always attracted to the box scores in all sports so the stat based games are always high on my list. The computer games never really grabbed my interest until Head Coach for PS2 and PS3, loved those games.
I have been here for over a year, starting with just one team and then once I got somewhat of a handle of the game I made my biggest mistake, too much expansion! I am trying to scale down my leagues to concentrate on a few teams and get better. I have received much help from some of the veterans of the game and it is always appreciated! Eventually I would like to maybe assist on of the great leaders and maybe take over a league myself...but that is down the road.
This is by far my favorite league, I love the things being done here! I really don’t have any complaints on the leagues I am in.
I actually spent about 6-7 years as a sports media person for radio/tv/and websites. Been able to cover awesome events such as NCAA Basketball Tourney (div I and III), minor league baseball (where I have met and interviewed many of the stars of today), D League (now G League) basketball, and the NFL Hall of Fame Weekend Festivities. Unfortunately there is not a lot of money to be made doing that, so now I am working for a loan servicer and would take a major pay cut to go back to that business.

Soooo... My life is not as interesting as the three gentleman before me. I will write one but i feel as if i am a child to you guys (no offense!!!) and most of my written stuff are dreams. I am a 21 year old college student in Cleveland, Ohio (and not near but inner city of Cleveland for my childhood). I grew up watching the Cleveland Browns every game day since i can remember, of course my only memories are pain lol.

Of course a dream job would be to eventually work in the professional sports area, coaching or front office work (i have always thought scouting was so intriguing and have been wanting to get a shot to help coach or scout or some type of front office work for the Cleveland Browns, or any NFL team). I joined this game after searching the entirety of the internet for a good in depth football sim. Like many of you guys my favorite game has been NFL head coach (which i still play today), and any other type of sim game (i have the most fun just simming games and playing front office in any NBA or NFL game). I always search for the best simulation strategy games such as NFL head coach, democracy 3, Europa Universalis, and of course MyFootballNow. I am a really competitive person and like to try to out think others even when i cant so i take a lot of these losses personally, and like to feel the sweet victory. I have many ambitions but with me trying to help my girl and her kids, it sometimes feels like a lot for me.

I wish i had a cooI story of working for nfl teams, working in hawaii, meeting stars, but for this current state in my life im jsut happy to have a game to act like im doing all that LOL. look forward to competing with you guys and kick your ***'s lol

What part of Cleveland? I grew up early on the near west side , then we moved to Lakewood and finally settled in Euclid. I attended Baldwin Wallace for a year but got my degrees from University of Akron. What school are you attending? Always nice to talk to a Ctown person especially since I have moved away.

A couple of Cleveland guys......I gotta imagine you are both super excited about the Browns next season......Yes Im a Ravens fan so I know there is a level of anger/hatred towards us based on the francise moving to Baltimore. Just so you know, Baltimore knows what it is like to lose a football team but at least we left the name and colors behind. But we also know that despite you getting a new francise very quickly, we werent quite as lucky. Despite having the best financial package presented to the NFL during the previous expansion, Carolina and Jacksonville were awarded the teams and we were left without a team for many years.

I truly believe the Browns are posed to be a perennial playoff caliper team for years to come and we in Baltimore are nervous.

Super excited for next football season here! I am not going to get all hyped up and claim Super Bowl just yet, but it seems like we will be relevant once again. Rumor has it that there are a couple of more moves that are in the works too!
As far as my hatred towards The Ravens...it still exists! But not for the events that transpired, but as a divisional foe. I will admit to being bitter about it, but I go over it in a way I never thought would happen.
The first year I got to cover the Hall of Fame festivities was the year Jonathan Ogden was inducted. The first draft pick after the move and he is a HOF’er. I despised him. But as a professional I still had to cover the event and his honor. On media day, there were about 20 of us standing around him and when I asked my first question, he stopped talking, walked over to me and put me in a big bear hug (mind you, I am 6’ 8” and about 325) and said “There aren’t many in your business that I can look eye to eye.” I didn’t know what to say about all that, lol.
Later that day, he was with his family inside the Hall itself and noticed me. He brought them over and introduce me to them and offered me an interview at anytime. I did do a feature on him and he was the best interview of the weekend! Anytime he saw me that weekend, he treated my like his best friend. I stayed in contact for a while, but eventually life got busy for both of us. He was a profession in every sense of the word and there was not any way I could think bad of him anymore. He made me realize that my hatred was more for Art and what he did rather than the team or its players. I still hate the Ravens, but it’s the same hatred that I have for the Steelers or Bengals.
