I never want to be that guy beholden to a playbook. I never used either as a totality stream, however, 3-4 Man Cover 1 has been good enough to get me title after title like Flat Zone with how I utilized it.
Man Under 1 looks to be effective now. I recall rather recent it'd get clobbered with the FB 212 moves and things like Hard slants. I mean, torn asunder and unusable. I do see it working now, though.
I don't any Flat Zone substitute is gonna do the same job as the original, they've all got weaknesses. Just that some GMs are gonna be able to rework their defense just with a quick substitute and not skip a beat.
JDB was unfair yanking it during the middle of a campaign. Couldn't figure out a legit move and then pound it for 3-4 preseason games.
Therefore, you have to be strategic. You listed all the options and yeah, it's limiting. I wouldn't use that 46 heavy one since he toyed with it in the era of the 'advantage sack' and that left Man Under 1 and the one I opted for.
I'd be an idiot to pick blitzes with no red bar to try and go against full red bar opponents = I lose.
Ultimately, I continue to hammer at it and show JDB has a bias and is sneaky.
Noticed I get banged around and take Ls when he's around and when he isn't I get a chance to breath, game plan to dominate and survive.

Man Under 1 is the best replacement if you don't have 3-4 man cover 1. Unfortunately for me, I have neither in my XFL playbook. Time to look for a new coach.

Dime Man Cover 1 where the MLB is in a QB spy also seems to be pretty good. I tried it out after someone played it against me and I think as long as you don't spam it only it's a great base defense(from what I've currently seen.)
Might want to override the dime flat to have your starting safety who should be in zone coverage into the CB3 spot for the play. Just had it streamed at me and while it's probably weak to a very run heavy game-plan of certain plays provided you sprinkle some blitzes it should be more than serviceable

I didn't even think that was possible
4-3 heavy zone playbook only has FZ and blitz 2 plays

Good advice. I do run Dime cover 1 a lot in other leagues.
