The 2nd half became a shootout as Buffalo outscored Montana 28-23 to win by just 1 point. New England came out fast in the 2nd half scoring 10 points on their first 2 possessions before missing a 56 yard fieldgoal with 3:39 left in the 3rd quarter on their 3rd possession making the score 17-7 NE. After trading punts, New England turned the ball over on an interception giving Miama a short field and they capitalized with a game tying TD with 8:08 remaining on the clock. The defenses tightened up and the two teams traded 5 straight punts before Miami took over 1st & 10 from their 19 yard line with just 0:47 left in regulation. New York outgained the Bull Sharks 3 to 1 in Total yards & 1st downs. New York scored on 3 of their first 4 possessions but punted 4 times in the 1st half to take a 13-0 lead into halftime. It got much better for NY in the 2nd half or much worse for Daytona depending on your persceptive. New York scored on all four 2nd half possessions with each drive going at least 10 plays as NY won going away 33-0. Brooklyn sent a message to the league that they are here to play as they outgained Zehlendorf 559 to 67 in Total yards and most of it happened in the 2nd half. Brooklyn took just a 6-0 lead into halftime after dominating statistically in the first half. They held the Zecken to just 33 yards on 5 possessions in the first half while they themselves had 216 yards but just 6 points. The 2nd half was a much different story as the Hitmen scored TDs on their first 4 possessions and 5 of their first 6 possessions of the 2nd half. They forced 2 fumbles and 7 punts on Zehlendorf and allowed just 39 yards with 25 of them coming on the Zeckens final possession with the score 44-0. Houston started the game running as they scored on their first 5 possessions and 6 of the first 7 possessions of the game and took a 28-0 lead into halftime. The 2nd half was more of the same as Houston scored on 4 of their first 5 possessions of the 2nd half and they probably would of shutout the Cobras if not for a fumble at their own 23 which allowed Carolina to kick a fieldgoal. Cincinnati traded their #1 overall pick QB in the off-season and handed the keys to the car to veteran QB Leonard Thompson. He rewarded the Defenders by throwing for 277 yards, 2 TDs and most importantly 0 interceptions. The real Superstar of the game was rookie WR Julio Hamilton who rushed the ball 12 times for 84 yards & 1 TD while making 8 receptions for 82 yards & 1 TD reception. Pittsburgh struggled on offense rushing the ball 14 times for 15 yards and had some success passing for 238 yards, 1 TD but 2 interceptions. Atlanta got the ball first and went 3 & out and was forced to punt. Tampa Bay moved the ball into Atlanta's territory before throwing an interception and Atlanta started to dominate. Atlanta scored TDs on 4 of their next 6 possessions while Tampa Bay managed just 2 fieldgoals as the game went into halftime with Atlanta in the lead 28-6. The 2nd half was more of the same as Atlanta scored on 4 of their first 5 possessions while Tampa Bay was shutout in the 2nd half. Atlanta WR Richard Morillo had 9 receptions for 341 yards & 4 TD receptions to pace the league while QB Alvin Johnson had 482 yards passing & 6 TD passes to pace the league. The 2nd half became a battle of kickers as Toronto K Frank Payne went 5 for 5 on FGs including 2 50+ fieldgoals capped by a 55 yarder. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Vancouver Vandals 31 @ Seattle Barbarians 12 Vancouver has been a perennial contender for years and a trip to Seattle in week 1 was nothing more then a business trip. Vancouver took a slight 14-9 lead into halftime before out scoring the Barbarians 17-3 in the 2nd half to win going away. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Washington Warriors 16 @ Orlando Guardians 3 Two teams looking to make a name for themselves was also a game where the current Washington owner traveled to Oralndo to play the francise he previously owned. The 1st half was a defensive battle where Washington took a 3-0 lead into halftime before pouring it on some in the 3rd quarter with the games only touchdown. Washington & Shark gets the win over his former team as they hope to make some noise in a very competitive NXC East. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■

![]() NEWS & NOTES (WEEK 2) Week 2 saw 11 teams improve to 2-0 while 11 teams remain winless at 0-2. Only 3 games were decided by 1 score or less and we had no shutouts this week after four in week 1. We had four blowouts where a team won by 20+ points and nine games fall into "The Rest" category where the margin of victory was more then 1 score but less then 20 points. Looking ahead to week 3 we have 3 key matchups between undefeated teams and all 3 games are Division games. Cincinnati @ Houston Los Angeles @ Phoenix Buffalo @ New York GAME OF THE WEEK ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Saint Paul Punishers 20 @ Zehlendorf Zecken 17 The game of the week was a division game between 2 winless teams and it was the closest game of the week. The game featured 5 lead changes as Saint Paul scored first to take a 3-0 lead before Zehlendorf scored a TD to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Saint Paul would score their first TD early in the 3rd quarter to take a 10-7 lead before Zehlendorf responded with a TD of their own as the 3rd quarter ended making the score 14-7 Zehlendorf. Zehlendorf would add a fieldgoal early in the 4th to extend their lead to 17-10 before Saint Paul would tie the game with just 2:32 left in the game. Zehlendorf would go 3 & out and was forced to punt which gave the Punishers the ball at their own 33 yardline with 1:44 on the clock. Saint Paul used just 33 seconds to move 44 yards and they kicked a game winning 40 yard fieldgoal with 1:14 left on the clock. Zehlendorf could only move the ball 18 yards before the clock hit 0:00 and the Punishers escaped Germany with their first win. Los Angeles started fast scoring a quick TD on their first possession then their defense forced a fumble which set up a fieldgoal and LA took a 13-3 lead into halftime. LA struck first in the 2nd half and extended their lead to 20-3 and it looked like they would win easily but Brooklyn had other ideas. Brooklyn managed a fieldgoal on their first possession of the 4th quarter making the score 20-6 and their defense forced LA to punt before Brooklyn put together their best drive of the game. They went 9 plays/80 yards in 2:47 and the score was 20-13 with 5:25 left in the game. Brooklyn's defense bent a little but held and forced a punt which gave them the ball with 2:03 left and a chance to time the game. They converted a 4th down but a huge sack on 1st & 10 put them behind the chains and they eventually were stopped on 4th & long and fell short of the comeback. Carolina started fast scoring two 1st quarter TDs to take a 14-0 lead early in the game. Seattle would hit 2 fieldgoals while Carolina had 1 fieldgoal to go into halftime with a 17-6 lead. Seattle started the 2nd half with their 3rd fieldgoal then after forcing a fumble they scored their first TD of the game making the score 17-16 Carolina with 6:08 left in the 3rd quarter. Carolina put together thier best drive of the game at the end of the 3rd quarter going 7 plays/75 yards for a TD which extended their lead to 24-16 with 2:37 left in the 3rd quarter. Seattle was forced to punt on their next possession and Carolina had an 8 play/60 yard drive in the 4th which seemed to be the drive that would ice the game but their kicker missed a 53 yard fieldgoal keeping it a one score game.
