News & Notes

2040 (Week 1)

We kicked off the 23rd season of the XFL and the defending Champs won easily at home against Gem City 45-10 as they raised their 1st banner!

A new season brings fresh hope and some bottom dwellers from last season got off to a 1-0 start.

Atlanta (4-12) won 16-6 @ Providence
Saint Paul (3-13) won 10-7 vs Pittsburgh
Daytona (2-14) won 17-14 vs Houston
Michigan (5-11) won 24-21 vs Toronto
Miami (5-11) won 6-3 vs Vancouver
Indiana (4-11-1) won 27-6 @ New York

We had a few individual performances which really stood out!

QB Ricardo Dodds (BUF)

The former ALLPRO QB threw for 525 yards and 7 TDs. In the 22 year plus 1 week history, there have been 5,648 regular season games played and a QB throwing for at least 500 yards has only happened 84 times! This is the 2nd time Dodds has reached that milestone in his career. Others that have done it multiple times:

Randal Cunningham (22)
Bobby Moreira (6)
Jason Matson (5)
Kenneth Powers (4)
Hershel Owen (4)
Lawrence Lewis (4)
Drew Lock (3)
Ahmad Pickens (3)
John Wade (2)
Richard Pinto (2)
Robert Schiffman (2)
Juan Kirk (2)
John Hammack (2)
Dennis Morton (2)
Michael Preston (2)
Mervin Couture (2)
Ricardo Dodds (2)

Throwing at least 7 TD passes in a game has only happened 42 times in 5,648 regular season games. This is Dodds 3rd time reaching that milestone. Only 9 QBs have thrown at least 7 TD passes in a game multiple times:

Randal Cunningham (12)
Juan Kirk (4)
Bobby Moreira (4)
Ricardo Dodds (3)
Jason Matson (3)
Hershel Owen (3)
Drew Lock (3)
Marc Cote (2)
Lawrence Lewis (2)

Only 25 times has a QB thrown for at least 500 yards and thrown 7 TD passes in a game. Dobbs has accomplished this milestone twice and joins an exclusive group of 6 quarterbacks:

News & Notes

2040 (Week 2)

4 teams with losing records last season have started off 2-0 which doesn't bode well for Vancouver & New York. They are 2 of 10 teams which have started 2-0 this season. That matches the 10 teams that started 0-2 to include Vancouver & New York plus Oakland & Toronto, 2 playoff teams from last season.

Atlanta (4-12)
16-6 @ Providence
13-10 @ Texas

Michigan (5-11)
24-21 vs Toronto
17-7 @ Tampa Bay

Miami (5-11)
6-3 vs Vancouver
23-7 @ New York

Indiana (4-11-1)
27-6 @ New York
10-0 vs Vancouver

RUSHING
We have had 14 rushers hit 100 yards in 2 weeks but only Mark Moore (DAK) did it both weeks but Ken Ewen (WOL) came close with 110 & 97 yards.

RECEIVING
We have had only 4 receivers have 100 yard games in 2 weeks.

KICKING
John McKinney (WOL) followed his 8 for 8 fieldgoal performance with a 1 for 1 game. He still leads the league with 9 FGs but Robert Combs (DAK) has closed the gap with his 7 for 7.

DEFENSE
MLB Alex Appleton (LAC) leads the league with 24 tackles but 8 players total have at least 20.

LDE Max Arnold (CIN) leads the league with 6 sacks but 10 players have at least 3 sacks.

CB Harry Parker (WAS) and WLB Jose Martinez (CIN) both lead the league with 7 knockdowns but 12 players have at least 5.

SLB Andrew Reed (VBA), CB Martin Johnson (BUF) and CB Ryan Embree (MIA) all have 3 interceptions to lead the league. 8 players have at least 2 in 2 games.

POINTS
Dakota leads the league in points scored (83) and points allowed (6).

News & Notes

2040 (Week 4)

We have reached the quarter pole and we are down to 4 undefeated teams, 2 in the AXC (Buffalo/Dakota) and 2 in the NXC (Philadelphia/Carolina).

We have 5 winless teams, 1 in the AXC (Texas) and 4 in the NXC (Providence/Brooklyn/Zehlendorf/Memphis).

PASSING
We only have 1 quarterback, Ricardo Dodds (BUF), on pace for 4,000 yards passing and only 2 on pace for 30 TD passes, Dobbs and Steven Stiner (TOR).

Roderick Lyle (BRO) is on pace to get sacked 88 times which would be 3rd most Alltime if he can survive the season.

Taylor Rojas (NYE) is on pace to throw 40 interceptions which would be 3rd most Alltime if he can keep his job the entire season.

RUSHING
We have 5 players on pace to challenge the single season rushing record of 1,636 yards

Ken Ewen (WOL) 463 yards (1,852)
Frank Williams (VAN) 444 yards (1,776)
George Fields (NEC) 432 yards (1,728)
Scott Clark (VBA) 427 yards (1,708)
Mark Moore (DAK) 408 yards (1,632)

RECEIVING
Nothing much to talk about receiving wise. Only 2 players even close to a 100 reception pace, TE Dale Orduna (IND) and WR K.K. Downing (GCG) are on pace for 96 receptions.

Only 3 players on pace for 1,000 yards receiving.

WR Clifford Mays (VBA) 411 yards (1,644)
WR Robert Yancy (WAS) 314 yards (1,256)
WR Roy Kirkpatrick (PHI) 273 yards (1,092)

KICKING
We have a Kicker, John McKinney (WOL) on pace for 60 fieldgoals which would break the Alltime single season record of 55 set in 2028 by K Daniel Jones (PHI).

DEFENSE
The single season record for tackles is 166 held by MLB Eric Aguirre (VBA) and MLB Dwight McEwen (TOR) in 2031 & 2025 respectively. We have 2 players on pace to break the record.

SS Carl Ward (SPP) 44 tackles (176)
FS John Deane (BRO) 42 tackles (168)

The single season record for sacks is 28, held by LDE Robert Lapham (SPP), way back in 2022. We have 2 players on pace to challenge that 18 year old record.

LDE Max Arnold (CIN) 7 sacks (28)
LDE Howard Ross (WOL) 7 sacks (28)

We have 4 players on pace for 40 knockdowns which would rank 5th alltime in a season with the record being 47, held by CB Fred Smoot (GCG), set in 2032.

CB Ulysses Wright (VBA) 10 (40)
CB Albert Chee (BRO) 10 (40)
CB Paul Barnabe (TEX) 10 (40)
CB Henry Parker (WAS) 10 (40)

The single season record for interceptions in a season is 13, held by Michael English (DAK) and Rick Henry (BUF) in 2029 & 2036 respectively. We have 6 players on pace to challenge that record.

SLB Andrew Reed (VBA) 4 (16)
WLB Jose Dilby (NYE) 3 (12)
CB Ryan Embree (MIA) 3 (12)
CB Daniel Roman (NYE) 3 (12)
CB Norman Philson (CAR) 3 (12)

TEAM RECORDS
Vegas leads the league in points scored (133)

Carolina leads the league in points allowed (22).

The single season record for points allowed is 110 held by Dakota in 2025 and we have 2 teams on pace to challenge that record.

Carolina 22 points allowed (88)
Dakota 25 points allowed (100)

Thus is an extremely difficult record to obtain because it only takes 1 game where tge team allowed a couple touchdowns to ruin the pace.

The record for Total team defense is 178.1 yards per game held by Buffalo in 2038. We have 1 team with an outside chance to challenge that record.

Vancouver 184.8

The record for passing defense is 90.8 yards per game held by Oakland in 2038. We have 2 teams on pace to challenge that record.

Kansas City 82.5
Brooklyn 90.8

UPDATE

I've finished 8 of the 32 teams for my Alltime draft grades for every draft from 2019-2036 (18 seasons).

I'm scoring every draft by if each pick signed 2nd or more contracts after their rookie contract. So if 5 of 7 draft picks signed at least a 2nd contract...it's a pass and the 2 that didn't were considered failed picks.

That gives me a percentage for each year's draft for all 32 teams. I then take the total years signed and and divide that into the total money signed for every successful pick. So let's say 5 players signed for 6 years each which equals 30 years and the total money equals 210.0 million dollars (210÷30=7).

Then I multiple 7 by the success rate 5÷7=.714 so 7 × .714= 4.998 (rounded to 5). Then finally, every Allpro (+1), MVP (+3) and HALL OF FAME (+5) is adding to the score as a bonus.

So in this example if the 7 players drafted got 2 career Allpro selections and 1 player went to the Hall of Fame....I would add +2 (2 Allpros) and +5 (HOF) to the season grade of 5 which gives me a score of 12 (5+2+5).

I do the above for 18 drafts (2019-2036) for every team and give each team a draft pick for each season and a Total draft grade for all 18 seasons combined.

EXAMPLE BELOW (Vancouver...one of the teams I've completed) Once every team is done, I will rank all the teams in every category....I really want to wrap this up by the end of this season.

News & Notes

2040 (Week 7)

7 weeks in and we are down to 1 undefeated team (Philadelphia) after Buffalo lost to Dakota in the latest matchup between the oldest & best rivalry in the XFL.

It was the 20th regular season game between the 2 teams and the win makes the 23 season rivalry, 10-10. To take it even further, the 2 teams have played 12 postseason games and they are 6-6 versus each other plus 10 of the 12 postseason games have been AXC Conference Championship games where Dakota has the edge, 6-4. They are the very definition of a rivalry and the XFL is better for it.

We have 2 winless teams, both in the NXC East (Providence/Brooklyn) which is the same division where the only undefeated resides. That means Philadelphia is 1 win away from eliminating both teams which would be an XFL record for earliest elimination of 2 teams.

PASSING
We only have 1 quarterback, Ricardo Dodds (BUF), on pace for 4,000 yards passing and only 1 on pace for 30 TD passes, Dobbs (BUF)

Roderick Lyle (BRO) is on pace to get sacked 87 times which would be 3rd most Alltime if he can survive the season.

RUSHING
We dropped from 4 players to just 1 player on pace to challenge the single season rushing record of 1,636 yards or 100+ yards per game.

Frank Williams (VAN) 745 yards (1,702)

RECEIVING
Nothing much to talk about receiving wise. Only 1 players even close to a 100 reception pace. K.K. Downing had just1 reception in week 7

WR K.K. Downing (GCG) 42 receptions (96)

Only 4 players on pace for 1,000 yards receiving.

WR Clifford Mays (VBA) 551 yards (1,259)
WR Carlton Smith (DAK) 481 yards (1,099)
WR Robert Yancy (WAS) 497 yards (1,136)
WR Jeff Weir (BUF) 488 yards (1,115)

KICKING
K John McKinney (WOL) is on pace for 43 fieldgoals which which is down from 48, 51 & 60 the last 3 weeks and his chances to break the Alltime single season record of 55 set in 2028 by K Daniel Jones (PHI) is fading fast.

RETURNS
RB Jared Johnson (DAY) has 2 KO return TDs this season which gives him 9 games to tie the Alltime record of 3 KO return TDs held by 6 players and an outside chance to set a new record!

There have been no punt return TDs this season and only 29 punt return TDs in the 22+ season history of the XFL. WR Simon Nava (ATL) holds the Alltime record with 3 career punt return TDs and he retired in 2029.

DEFENSE
The single season record for tackles is 166 held by MLB Eric Aguirre (VBA) and MLB Dwight McEwen (TOR) in 2031 & 2025 respectively. We have 2 players on pace to break the record on come close.

MLB Clifford Owens 72 tackles (165)
SS Efrain Waters (BRO) 73 tackles (167)

The single season record for sacks is 28, held by LDE Robert Lapham (SPP), way back in 2022. We dont have anyone on pace to challenge that 18 year old record but we do have 4 players on pace to eclipse 20 sacks this season including 2 players from the Michigan Wolverines.

RDE Mohamed Abron (WOL) 10 sacks (23)
LDE Howard Ross (WOL) 9 sacks (21)
LDE Bruce Hargett (KCY) 9 sacks (21)
LDE Max Arnold (CIN) 9 sacks (21)

We have 3 players on pace for 40ish knockdowns which would rank 5th alltime in a season with the record being 47, held by CB Fred Smoot (GCG), set in 2032.

CB Victor Dennis (OAK) 16 (37)
CB Martin Johnson (BUF) 16 (37)
CB Ulysses Rice (VBA) 16 (37)

TEAM RECORDS
Buffalo leads the league in points scored (202)

Pittsburgh leads the league in points allowed (47).

The Alltime record for points allowed is 110 held by Dakota in 2025.

The record for passing defense is 90.8 yards per game held by Oakland in 2038. We have 1 teams on pace to challenge that record.

Brooklyn 91.0

The Alltime record for Total defense is 178.1 yards per game held by Buffalo in 2038. We have 2 teams below 200 yard per game averages.

Houston 194.9
Pittsburgh 197.3

News & Notes

2040 (Week 8)

We have reached the halfway mark of the season so let's take a deeper look at team and individual accomplishments and also track any possible record breakers.

We only have 1 undefeated team (Philadelphia) and three 1 lose teams (Buffalo/Dakota/Atlanta). The first 3 teams are no surprise as they combined for 3 loses last season but Atlanta won just 4 games last season.

Atlanta's defensive coordinator Kenneth Mendez has been controversial with his defensive gameplan and accusations have been made that he is putting bounties on players that get knocked out of the game. The commissioner when questioned has said no evidence of wrong doing has been found but the spotlight has been shined on Atlanta and they play Dakota in week 9 which could be a measuring stick for their defense.

Only Providence remains winless as Brooklyn finally won in week 8 but both teams are essentially eliminated from winning their division at week 8 and not too far from being officially eliminated from the playoffs entirely.

PASSING
We only have 1 quarterback, Ricardo Dodds (BUF), on pace for 4,000 yards passing 30 TD passes. Only 5 other QBs are on pace for 3,000 yards passing and just 2 other QBs are on pace for 20 TD passes. We only had 5 QBs finish with at least 3,000 yards last season and only 2 QBs have at least 20 TD passes with the leader finishing with 3,840 and 30!

Roderick Lyle (BRO) is on pace to get sacked 94 times which would be 3rd most Alltime if he can survive the season and just 2 behind the Alltime record of 96 set in 2038 by QB John Wade (VAN).

RUSHING
3 players are averaging over 100 yards rushing per game which can challenge the single season rushing record of 1,636 held by RB Adolph Warren (CIN) and set in 2038. Barring injury, it seems like this record will fall this season. 3 other players are on pace for over 1,500 yards rushing and still could finish strong and challenge that record.

Brandon Stone (WAS) 890 yards (1,780)
Frank Williams (VAN) 879 yards (1,758)
Scott Clark (VBA) 828 yards (1,656)

We have 1 player on pace for 16 rushing TDs which would be 2nd Alltime in a season.

Clarence Goins (PHI) 8 TD rushing (16)

RECEIVING
Nothing much to talk about receiving wise. Only 1 players even close to a 100 reception pace.

WR K.K. Downing (GCG) 48 receptions (96)

Only 4 players on pace for 1,000 yards receiving.

WR Clifford Mays (VBA) 602 yards (1,204)
WR Carlton Smith (DAK) 545 yards (1,090)
WR Robert Yancy (WAS) 548 yards (1,096)
WR Jeff Weir (BUF) 506 yards (1,012)

KICKING
K John McKinney (WOL) started the season with a bang but he has been passed by K Kim Irby (VBA) for the lead in fieldgoals with 21/26 but his pace wouldn't even finish in the top 10 Alltime in a season.

RETURNS
RB Jared Johnson (DAY) has 2 KO return TDs this season which gives him 8 games to tie the Alltime record of 3 KO return TDs held by 6 players and an outside chance to set a new record!

There have been no punt return TDs this season and only 29 punt return TDs in the 22+ season history of the XFL. WR Simon Nava (ATL) holds the Alltime record with 3 career punt return TDs and he retired in 2029.

DEFENSE

SS Efrain Waters (BRO) 81 tackles (162)

The single season record for sacks is 28, held by LDE Robert Lapham (SPP), way back in 2022. We dont have anyone on pace to challenge that 18 year old record but we do have 5 players on pace to eclipse 20 sacks this season.

LDE Christopher Shoults (LAC) 12 sacks (24)
RDE Royal Valentino (VBA) 10 sacks (20)
RDE Mohamed Abron (WOL) 10 sacks (20)
LDE Brian Jones (SPP) 10 sacks (20)
LDE Max Arnold (CIN) 10 sacks (20)

We have 3 players on pace for 40ish knockdowns which would rank 5th alltime in a season with the record being 47, held by CB Fred Smoot (GCG), set in 2032.

CB Albert Chee (BRO) 19 (38)
CB Ulysses Rice (VBA) 19 (38)

TEAM RECORDS
Philadelphia leads the league in points scored (234) followed by Buffalo (220) and Dakota (213).

Dakota leads the league in points allowed (62) followed by Pittsburgh (66) and Atlanta (73).

The Alltime record for points allowed is 110 held by Dakota in 2025.

The Alltime record for rushing offense is 244.0 yards per game set by Buffalo in 2020. We have 1 team on pace to challenge that 21 year old record.

Philadelphia 237.9

A few recent post brought up speed on teams so I decided to look at every team and grade them for speed based on number of players with the below listed speed and giving them points based on the list below.

95+ (5 point each)
90-94 (4 points each)
85-89 (3 points each)
80-84 (2 points each)
70-79 (1 points each)

The XFL is a mature league and speed is fairly evenly dispursed among the 32 teams plus everyone has more higher rated players versus just many empty speed players.

Also having speed is no real indicator of wins and loses in a league full of veteran owners with a nice mix of newer owners.

Tampa Bay is the fastest team by these standards with a score of 89 and they are just 4-6 while Oakland is the slowest with a score of 16, yet they lead their division at 6-4.

Finally, it just goes to show that speed alone can't make you successful and you don't need incredible speed to be successful.
