News & Notes
2040 (Week 13)
We are in the stretch run and we still have 1 undefeated team (Philadelphia) and 1 winless team (Providence) both in the NXC East.
In fact, the league has concluded their investigation against Providence ownership and have elected to remove them for: "Purposely tanking" which violates the leagues rule against this behavior. They were found in violation by using an offensive & defensive linemen as their primary kicker despite having a true Kicker on the roster. Repeated attempts to contact and warn the owner failed to yield a response or corrective action so the team will go into escrow until a new owner can be found. The crazy thing is Providence doesn't have next year's 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick so they were tanking for another teams benefit!
PASSINGWe only have 1 quarterback, Ricardo Dodds (BUF), on pace for an amazing 5,004 yards passing and 44 TD passes. Robert Alvarez (DAK) is a distant 2nd on pace for 4,120 yards and 27 TD passes. Dodds is almost a guarantee to win his 2nd league MVP and his 2nd ALLPRO. He would become the 4th player to win multiple MVPs joining:
Randal Cunningham (DAK) ×8
Jason Matson (DAK) ×3
Hershel Owen (OAK) ×2
RUSHING1 player is averaging over 100 yards rushing per game which can challenge the single season rushing record of 1,636 held by RB Adolph Warren (CIN) and set in 2038. What seemed like a lock midway thru the season will come down to the wire these last 3 games. Another rusher is just under 100 yards per game.
Scott Clark (VBA) 1,369 yards (1,685)
Brandon Stone (WAS) 1,297 yards (1,596)
RECEIVINGWR Wendell Nehring (BUF) has pulled away from the pack and easily leads in receptions and recent production has put him on pace for over 100 receptions. Carlton Smith (DAK) has passed K.K. Downing (GCG) who set the pace early but has leveled off and falls to 3rdd on pace for 87.
WR Wendell Nehring (BUF) 89 receptions (1010)
WR Carlton Smith (DAK) 73 receptions (90)
WR K.K. Downing (GCG) 71 receptions (87)
Only 3 players on pace for 1,000 yards receiving and Carlton Smith has already hit the 1,000 yard mark with 3 games remaining.
WR Carlton Smith (DAK) 1,043 yards (1,284)
WR Jeff Weir (BUF) 855 yards (1,052)
WR Robert Yancy (WAS) 847 yards (1,042)
We are in danger of not having a player hit 10 TD receptions in a season for the first time in the 23 year history of the XFL. WR Carlton Smith (DAK) has made a late push and is on pace to possibly hit double digits in TD receptions.
WR Carlton Smith (DAK) 8 TD receptions (9.8)
KICKINGK Kim Irby (VBA) has stormed into the lead in fieldgoals with 37/44 and is on pace for 46 fieldgoals.
RETURNSRB Jared Johnson (DAY), WR Robert Yancy and now John Mach (SEA) have 2 KO return TDs this season which gives them 3 games to tie the Alltime record of 3 KO return TDs held by 6 players and an outside chance to set a new record! Yancy is making a push to challenge QB Dobbs for league MVP.
There have been no punt return TDs this season and only 29 punt return TDs in the 22+ season history of the XFL. WR Simon Nava (ATL) holds the Alltime record with 3 career punt return TDs and he retired in 2029.
DEFENSEThe single season record for tackles is 166 held by MLB Eric Aguirre (VBA) and MLB Dwight McEwen (TOR) in 2031 & 2025 respectively. It's a pace of 10 tackles per game and nobody is even close to that pace. The leader in tackles is:
SS Carl Ward (SPP) 117 tackles (144)
