Sorry but I feel games that are close are much more exciting even if low scoring. I go into a few games now knowing 99 times out of a 100 I have no chance of winning against certain players(and you know who you are) because I refuse to just load up on speed guys. Only saying. If looking for reality is it only the speedy teams that win in the nfl CONSTANTLY? C'mon now

I just took an L in a Beta game where the opponent basically queried 'what is a Goal-line Attack #3 and how were you able to pull it up so much?' I out-strated him to the moon and back and lost. That is not cool.

Same thing happened to me in a Beta game as well. Opponent run blitzed me to death and when my rule to go to the pass kicked in I had 90+ receivers getting owned by subpar db's. There isn't going to be any balance in 4.6.

I'm playing the absolute right way there, too. Had 40/40 - got 38/40 plays selected now because I freed up the FB Dive to be solo and I removed a pass play.

I took the game in 8 sections and devised in panels 51%/49% run/pass divisions. I was catching him in non-stop wrong run keys - passing on it and he survives. My entire season I devised the ultimate 50/50 plan to F with the engine and it doesn't care. Set by Set, Section by Section of a game to be undefendable.

It's a whole new ball game at this point. You're going to have single coverage when your opponent sells out to the run and still not be able to get wr's open.

Hold onto your butts.

Since Ray and The Admiral shoved 4.6 down our throats, can we in turn shove 4.6 right up their...well you know where.

I told Ray to go F himself and came close with the Admiral but League Admin advantage, therefore, I holstered that. Had to delete out my curse out.

Ray has been delighted to tell me about my each and every L in Legends and Admiral right there to prod me on. smh

Ray gets on my nerves with his posts but we've barely interacted directly. The Admiral on the other hand, let's just say we each want the other one to F off, I'll never play in a league he runs again.

The biggest shock to me is the future of all MFN was determined by a vote of 12 random owners.

I get your point Moon, I really do! Like I've said this new direction will be good for some owners.

Is speed overpowered in 4.5??
Absolutely

But like I posted earlier, we are 2000-3000 points a season below the NFL. This is a clear cut NFL sim without the licensing agreement to use NFL logos or team names. The NFL is a pass heavy league and speed in the NFL is very important. Take the Kansas City Chiefs, yes Mahomes is great but take away WR Hill and TE Kelsey and then what? They lost Sammy Watkins in the off-season and it's hurt them plus they have the 32nd ranked defense.

Speed plays in the NFL but I'm not saying 4.5 is a perfect version. It has holes that need to be fixed. The problem is the fix was to make passing on offense even harder which is completely opposite of where the NFL is heading.

So the fix is to take the sim back to the 70s with run first offenses and dominant defenses?

I've been around for 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5.

In 4.3, you could use a variety of Short, Medium and Long passes and owners found different strategies to get the most out of their passing offense.

Owners complained about the offensive numbers and the lack of defense so JDB did something to destroy the passing game and released version 4.4

4.4 was a nightmare that nearly finished this sim. Owners were quitting left and right and the threads were flooded with complaints. If you passed the ball, it was 50/50 you were getting sacked. Passing yards per game and per season dropped so low it was comical.

The damage 4.4 did was so bad, it barely lasted 1 season before JDB released 4.5.

4.5 took away long passing, 95% of long pass plays simply don't work but it was such an improvement to 4.4 that we accepted it. It's been the current version for 2 years now I think and the reason for that is simple.

After the debacle of 4.4, the forums were flooded with demands that before a new version be released, it needed several seasons of active usage in BETA before making the switch because the game couldn't survive another 4.4

I've been around this game for 4 years now but not just as an owner but as a league creator and I know how many owners we lost during the 4.4 release. This sim has been steadily lost owners and leagues for awhile now. Goto all available leagues and their are only 3 pages now. MFN Leagues (MFN-1, MFN-2 etc) are automatically created when all the leagues become full and a new league is needed, they are created chronologically and if you check, there is a MFN-74 but we are down to 12 MFN leagues. That's 62 leagues which folded due to lack of ownership.

That's not the real problem, it's the Custom Leagues that flourish but even those are dwindling in number.

What's my point????

I've watched this game barely survive a version which took away the passing game in version 4.4

Now years later, we are switching to another version which once again takes away the passing game. Does 4.6 fix some holes in 4.5? Apparently it does but at the cost of a watered down passing game.

If you ask me, the problem with 4.5 were simple to fix.

Increase the injury rates for underweight players playing out of position significantly. This stops the punt block exploit and DBs playing the line of scrimmage, DBs playing LB, WR playing RB etc.

Un-nerf the long passing plays while increasing the chances of sacks which makes QBs with quick release & scramble more important.

Finally new player creation should have minimums for speed and strength for position groups. Why would any WR or DB in the draft even exist with 47 speed??? If every DB and WR had a minimum of 75 speed then speed loses its relevance!! I've seen 45 speed WRs and 80 speed Centers. What Center in any world is faster then the worst WR??

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a new version!!! I really want one bad!!! I'm just not a fan of a new version with a list of serious problems being the answer.

Let's say I'm a brand new user of MFN after 4.6 becomes the norm. I love the concept of roster management and the draft and join my 1st league. I use my 1st draft to draft a young QB using default weights because I'm new. I took over a bad team in an established league and that the top overall pick. My QB is a default 95 rates QB and he booms in training camp.

Now I get to preseason and try my hand at gameplanning so I pick a nice balanced play matrix with plenty of runs with a compliment of short, medium and long passes. Now over the course of my 1st season, I consistently throw for under 200 yards per game and I think he is a rookie but he should be improving....what am I doing wrong??

I start to look at other teams and realize even the good teams are barely breaking 200 yards passing and TD passes are so rare nobody is throwing 30 in a season.

I'm the curious type of new owner so I look at previous seasons of season stats and see QBs threw for 4,500 to 5,000 yards with 30-45 TD passes. WHAT HAPPENED??? Clearly in the past owners threw the ball great but nobody is doing it now. I don't understand so I start looking at other leagues and find the same thing.

I'm out!!!

You might be right Fred but my first league four years ago also, there were scores like 127-43 I think it was 4.2 then. Maybe 4.1. one season in first two games my qb had almost 1500 passing yards and I didn't even know what the **** I was doing. That's on pace for 11000 for the season lol eventually he settled down and may have ended up with less than five but still....
