Right - Duane has built a top, three deep defense at every position in that league. I wasn't expecting to win, but to keep it that close and get mauled made me feel like I missed an opportunity for an upset.

Completely different question: how many offensive or defensive plays do you have to avoid overuse penalties? Same team you just looked at had 18/40 plays on offense and 19/30 on defense. Obviously no long passes, but do you have at least 4-5 of everything else so the RNG has enough variety to pick from? More than that? Fewer plays if they're all home runs?

I may be wrong but I thought if you don't have at least 30 offensive and 20 defensive plays in your playbook the AI will add plays.

Definately wrong, I had a season here where I tracked every offensive play called for every game for every team where I institutes a rule that everyone had to use a minimum of 20 offensive plays.

That was during 4.5 and some owners were using as few as 12 offensive plays per game.

No, it's really minimal, therefore if you're not whittled down and you're up vs. an elite GM streaming at you....you will more than likely lose.

I wouldn't do it but Ray once posted what avoids the wrath of the engine and it was having selected under 10 total plays - period - both sides of the ball. It was dumb like 4 and 4 total.

But seriously, I have noticed that you and smirt both aim for the 100 blocking vets instead of the 26 year old 98 strength 80 blocking guys.

I know speed kills on the d line, but I guess just throw strength totally out the window? Duane's team in the other league also has a top o line, so I didn't know if the 85 speed 63 strength DE would be able to get past a top tackle. From this discussion I'm guessing you aim for 100 pass/run d linemen if they're fast enough? Without giving away too many secrets, do you have a floor for tackling skills?

Like strength....I'm not high on the tackle ability either....sure a high tackle attribute guy will have fewer missed tackles over the course of a season but speed gets a defender to the ball which is over half the battle at least IMO.

So a MLB with 60 speed and 100 tackle versus a MLB with 80 speed and 60 tackle...who are you taking???

I'm taking the 80 speed MLB everytime.

I didn't say I NEVER draft OL or DL in the 1st round....just rarely. There is something to be said for drafting an OL high if he is miles better then anything else available...If he booms....thats like a dozen seasons where you don't have to worry about 1 slot on the line.

That's just my style of playing...I've seen owners who invest heavily into their OL and have success. It's important to remember that their are different paths to success...take Smirt & me....we have different styles but we both have our fair share of success
